                      Emelyn:
Have a fren whose son is in GEP P5 this yr. His son is very slow in doing things. EVERYTHING. Will take 3 hours to finish 1 page of Chinese compo. So, many times, he has to sleep at 12midnight just to finish up his project. And my fren has to help him burn the mid-night oil too. And in the morning, he has to wake up at 5:30am as he needs to leave for school at 6am.

He is really struggling. And because his group of friends are fast worker and smarter too.... he kind of feel that he is not good in everything.

However, my friend, probably because of face, still insisted that he stay in the GEP.

So, everytime i see the son, I feel v sad for him.
I thought it unfair to conclude that your friend insist that the son stay in GEP becos of face issue. Would you force your kid to stay in something he doesn't like becos of face? There're times when I insist my kid to continue to do something eg. ballet altho she's expressed wishes to stop. I felt that she may be too young to know what's good for her, and letting her quit something easily may send her the negative message that it's alright to give up when the going gets tough. I only let her quit when it occurred to me that the teacher was always getting her to redo her steps and pointing out her mistakes conspicuously, and it was damaging to her self-worth, plus her ballet friends started to talk among themselves and commented that my kid is 'lousy'.

Your friend may feel that the boy has not accustomed himself to the GEP system yet and think that it may be too early to pull him out. Or he or she may want the boy to go thro the grill and not have things easy.
