2009 DSA(Direct School Admission)

Hi TJas,
if yr girl is not good in Maths, then I would advise u not to apply DSA for NUSHS. Think when her school gave report book, it provided a slip of paper to show the highest, ave & lowest. Was her Maths the lowest? If not, not to worry too much. IMO, GEP Maths is one of the toughest subject.
Since she got cert for creative writing camp, it may (not very sure) carry weight in DSA application. Think not many student is selected for the 4 day camp.
My advise for u:
1. Don't miss her school MTP usually held in Jan. One GEP official will present DSA.
2. Attend her GEP school DSA talk/exhibit. During this talk, some IP schools will talk to P6 students. These is where IP school hold their road show. Heard 1 principal even attend this road show.
3. Attend DSA Open house. Talk to the principal/staffs for their advise. For NUSHS, you can miss it.
Cheers!

Tks. Her maths score is not the lowest but at the average. I know NUSHS is definately out for her. It is true that GEP has a better chance of getting thru DSA. Any suggestion on good maths assessments for P6. -

didn't the school teachers guide them to prepare portfolio? :?//Moderator's note: Topics merged.
Hi
My gg in Pr 5 GEP. Her t. score below 80%. Should I proceed with DSA (I were thinking of NYHS and NJC). Is it a waste of time since her result is not outstanding. BTW, how to prepare the DSA portforlia. Any advise will help. Need parents with same problems to share their views. Thanks -
Hi Vlim
My gg is in Pr 5 this year. School has not mentioned anything yet for DSA. -

Don't worry. By the first half of P6 the school would have prepared them for DSA. My dd's school teachers briefed them on what to include in their portfolio, training sessions were held for interviews, and ex-students also came back to give talks to the students.Hi Vlim

Hi turquoise,
Tks for the great informations. I think I am worried too much, must learn to relax. -
Hi,
Need advice from experienced parents. My kids are only P1 and P2 but I wanted to understand more about DSA as I don’t want it to be something that we understand too late and missed the boat.
My P2 girl joins the school band for CCA. She has a keen interest and she is continuing to do so in P3.
I was just wondering if she eventually continues with school band and manage to perform in those school events, etc… (think their school band is quite reputable and won awards). Can we eventually use that to try for DSA???
Was thinking if this is so, then we should encourage her further. -
DSA thru CCA helps to get into sec school, but to get into top school like RI, RGS, NYGH, HCI especially hard. Each school may be take in 2-3 for each CCA, so if the kid is not good enough it is really hard.
I think GEP who has added with CCAs has much higher chance. I mean for the top school I mentioned above. Other schools may be easier. -
understand that gep students are prepared for dsa application as they will be guided by the teachers to do the portfolio and trained for the interview. But how about non-gep school? Do they prepare students :? for dsa?
