Mr Chua likes to swim. His colleagues like to swim too. (as well as)
Mr Chua as well as his colleagues like to swim
or
Mr Chua as well as his colleagues likes to swim
or
Mr Chua, as well as his colleagues, likes to swim
I always thought as well as means and.
Then how does it change when it comed to "and"
Mr Chua and his colleagues like to swim

as well as has a similar meaning to and.
But in the top school exam papers answer sheet
It says as follows:
Mr Chua, as well as his colleagues, likes to swim. Initially I thought it is a typo error. But I saw in two (different school) papers. It uses the verb with s (likes). That is why bit confused. Even I thought the answer sheet should be correct since they are from 2 different schools. Thanks -
