IMO
not a must.
But in our DS case, phonics helped in his reading and spelling. It is definitely a major plus. -

Hi laughingcat,
The teacher still teaching 1 to 1 phonics? Can you pls email me? Thanks. -
Hi,
I am having headache with phonics. I have read through tamarind phonics blog over and over again...but i still don't understand...hahahaha
I know i need to teach my daughter 26 letter sounds. Currently, she is able to memorised half of it and i think she can complete it in another 1 month time.
Therefore, i am studying 2nd step in blending 2 letters sound or 3 letters sound and i'm stuck here. Tamarind says she teaches AT, AN, AP then IT, IN, IP, ID, IB, IM, IS and IX and so on for E, O, U.
I want to ask, are these the only combination for A,E,I,O,U. I only need to teach all the 2 letters available in tamarind's blog is it..
Meaning, there is no need for me to teach AC, AF etc?
I am so confused..... pls help..... :?: -
Need some clarification - what does it mean when a phonics teacher say "must know how to blend"?
Meaning able to break the word into phonics parts/sounds? Eg lunch - l-un-ch? -
Hi all mummies,
I have a going-to 5 years old gal and she knows her sound for all 26 letters very well. Also, she can blend 3 letters word.
But problem is, what she had learnt, whenever she sees those words like "cat, pan"etc, she will still blend them.
Does anyone have any way to let her look at the words and read it out without blending since all the words she knew how to read already?
Thanks in advance. -
Hi angela,
Kids who gone through phonics lesson will have a habit of doing the blending on every words. Juz encourage your DD to blend silently and say out the words. It just another phase of learning.
