MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
-
chamonix:
If you want more good schools, get the kids of alumni of good school to join unpopular schools.. then you got chance of more good schools.
I like this. It shows that schools are immaterial. So, just congregate the children of alumni in any schools and they will make these schools 'good'. Then, we will have more and more good schools.
Hmm, MOE should seriously consider this.
diversity don't occur when the same trails are passed down for generations within a closed group. -

For various individual opinions to that question, I look forward to your generous efforts to comb through the 131 pages and consolidate them in the your next post(s).IDad:
So pls tell me - what's sooooo special abt alumni that they warrant unlimited entry criteria vs church n clan?
Very question....I also very interested to know.
Still not satisfied with the possibly one-sided opinions?
Then .... for MOE's official Unbiased stand on this, please call / email them directly and post their reply in this forum - for the benefit of everyone here.
Cheers! Here's a tiger for your efforts.
:celebrate:
If YOU YOURSELF bother to read ALL the posts from#1, you will realise I have been participating in this thread from the beginning. Therefore, do not pretend to act smart and try to brush off mine or Vicki's question. If you do not have any solid reason why alumni deserve priority over church or clan, its better to just keep mum.
Maybe I detest hypocrites who pepper their scarstic remarks with seemingly friendly phrases, if you do not mean it, please spare me the hypocrisy. Its not appreciated nor necessary. I usually ignore or delete such emails because it reflects the writer is either ignorant or trying to act smart. Waste of time.... -

Fair enough.. the number of years maybe up for debate, just like measurement of \"contribution\".. but the general idea is good....
MOE can always have certain criteria on distance. Priority to 'good' schools can be given to those who have been living there for more than 7 years. Those who stayed/rented there for less than 5 years will enjoy no special treatment.
For alumni, same thing. Those who have contributed for a long time with no self interest truly deserve a seat for their children. For those who have done nothing much since they graduated or contributed only after having children will not get to enjoy any special treatment.

Dear Vicki,
Dear Lyddon,
Good try in trying to push the work to others to do. U must be part of 'mgmt' in your office.
However, as a fellow 'colleague' in the 'mgmt' league as well, do note that since this 'proposed priority change discussion - if any' does not affect me at all, i would say - go find another kah kia who will do your bidding.
In the meantime, guess vk2010 is correct - wasting too much ink here.
Since things are beneficial only to the 'connected' or the 'rich' - and so far - i seem to be on the right side of this fence - i shall just accept it - and too bad for fellow SGs then.
Yours Sincerely,
Vicki
I have given my Pro-Alumni opinions here, as have many others. I am agreeable with the current policies and see no need to question them further.
So ... Actually, I am not passing the buck here. I just see no point in rat-holing and repeating opinions to get to an answer. The ultimate answer.
Attempts to arrive at an answer would be tough .... because only MOE has the answer. In a forum, all we can do is exchange opinions, speculate, assume, and propose ideas - if lucky, arrive at something semi-solid. It is only at MOE that there is 'solidification'.
As stated in my post to idad.
There are 131 pages (over 40 days) of opinions shared so far. If none of them as \"solid\" enough to answer THE question, perhaps its time to move to another platform to get a solid answer(s) - once and for all.
We are here for friendly civil debate and opinions (and some crucially timed OT banter). I'm glad to be part of it - just for the fun. However, when the air starts to reek of hostile labeling (eg. act smart) and name calling (eg. hypocrites), it's just really uncalled for.
:offtopic:
Yeah, I am part of 'mgmt' in Office. Pushing work is not the culture here, getting it done most effectively and efficiently by the right resource(s) is the priority.
I will not claim I am rich, though I have more than sufficient for my needs to be met.
I am not simply connected to my alma mater - its more than that. My school is part of who I am.
Yours Sincerely,
Lyddon -

Waste of time....
Good that you get my sarcastic intent ... though I meant as a friendly reminder that the answer YOU seek is not forthcoming from this forum... especially after 40 days and 131 pages (my posts/opinions included). Pity you responded the way you did....
Considering that you participated for 40 days and 131 pages of posts and there is no safisfactory answer to a question YOU are interested. Isn't it time to take the next step and get a definitive answer ... from MOE perhaps? It's your choice, of course. I merely pointed to MOE to get the absolute solid 'answer' you seek. If you are offended by that, then don't contact MOE.
... Or maybe you are just very patient and hope MOE or Mr Heng to respond to this forum to give (I quote) \" solid reason why alumni deserve priority over church or clan\".
Keep mum? I am smart enough to know you have no admins right nor the 'solid' justification to request admin to do so.
Note to all forumers, if you do not have (I quote again) \"solid reason why alumni deserve priority over church or clan\" ... be prepare to be told to keep mum too.
Like many others, I have clearly given my opinions on this topic. If you think the pro-alumni views posted so far are not solid enough, it would be futile to repeat or consolidate them for you.
I am perfectly contented with the current Pri.1 registration policies and see no need to question further or seek 'solid' answers. -
whoever interested to find out \"solid reason (s) why alumni deserve priority over church or clan\", kindly write in to MOE inquire. Email is contact@moe.gov.sg
http://www.moe.gov.sg/about/contact/
however, you may also direct this question to the particular Officer in charge, if you happen to know who is in charge:-

then the Truth will set you free.
Arguments will stop. PEACE.
