      ?

Are the above 2 replies directed at my inquiry?
I am exploring engaging some one to mark my boy’s essay instead of hiring tutor as I am looking at possibility of coaching him myself .
additionally, is it reasonable to ask my tutor to mark our essay outside tuition hours with no payment? Exam period my boy is doing an essay a day so to wait for tutor to come in 7 days later, is a bit too late n we prefer that tutor focus on oral as oral exams come up first.

Marking wise depends on the tutor’s level of responsibility and mind-set. Personally, I do mark my students work outside of class but I wouldn’t mark as many as 7 compositions in-between two classes.

Furthermore, do you really think it is helpful to ask your child do so many compositions every week? Compositions tests the creativity, maturity of the student’s thoughts and most important the mastery of the language itself.

I am a newbie to Kiasu Parent, only mean to check out PSLE info but I chanced upon Xuelin's thread. I enroll my Pri 5 immediately & my experience with them is fabulous! :imcool:

Bellyhoney, I agree with you; my Pri 5 boy after attending 3 lessons with Wen Lao Shi, falls in love with Chinese when he dislikes the language so much. Remarkable! :rahrah: His CA1 has improved tremendously to 85% after 1 term. Wen Lao Shi has really encouraged & motivated him. My son doesn't want to miss her lesson at all! :rotflmao:

I also enroll my Pri 4 with Wen lao Shi too. Same comment. :rotflmao:

It's a pity, Wen Lao Shi doesn't take Pri 2 class. I have to enroll my no 3 is with another teacher.

Agreed, money well spend though they are really expensive, I don't mind paying when I see my children enjoying their classes. I just hope that they will continue their good work. Thumbs up, Xuelin! :rahrah:

My children are in the Bukit Timah branch: 64665400. They have another branch in Katong( I don't know the tel).

            Thanks for your replies.
Creativity is last on my list. I am working at smooth sentence structure n a credible story for sa1 at the moment. Daily compo
now is for exposure n to work on his weakness.

Erm I threaten to sack his tutor? 😓
his tutor is actually very patient nnice. I don't want son to take this for granted n need him to show us some results as he is now stuck at 18-20/30 for compo.
lol. This is short term only ... Hugging Buddha's leg. 😓
but thiinking long term if we can manage Chinese by ourselves.

The teacher must be very strict with the marking. 18-20 seemed a bit low. Above 21 would be better. Jia you

The very basic would be to expose him to different ways of writing a sentence. For example,

                    Simple
My friend invited me to a party. I do not want to go.
                    Compound
My friend invited me to a party, but I do not want to go.
                    Complex
Although my friend invited me to a party, I do not want to go.

I would also recommend introducing literary figures of speech and short phrases. Generally I would require my students to include sensory (sight, smell, hearing, feel, taste) descriptions extensively to draw the readers and examiners into the composition.

Having a great idea for the composition boost the marks far more than most people would imagine. After all, a good portion of the marks in composition are catered to content.

Does an NIE trained teacher teach better than one who is not?

For those of us who have passed through the gates of NIE, we all know it is a matter of being project and exam smart. As for the practicum, it really depends on the CT as well as the Sup, isn’t it?

I am paying $35 an hour for Chinese for grad. Is this too high?
