Not all schools.syshi:
Actually all school will have prize-giving day which give out trophies for the top 3 in class, top 10 in level and top in subject... at least that's what I know from my kids school and my sister's kids school...
my gal's previous sch (b4 changing to the current one), only present to the \"TOP in class\" no second or third and also NO TOP in subject.
the pupils are only given a $15 or $20 pop voucher, no trophies. i remembered clearly once there was a yr whereby my gal who had gotten first in class (teacher already announced to the whole class) but later the teacher said that there was a slight error due to the rounding off of the decimal when keying in to the computer system, she came in second. the teacher then send us an email to apologise for the \" error\".
so u can imagine how infuriated my gal was at that moment...........
i think it is very demoralising. schools shd have given recognition for the top 3 best pupils and also best in subjects for their hardwork.
Some school will have limited budget and in such case, only the first in class get it. We realise that my DS got short changed, :x in P1 when the following year he got the voucher during the Speech day for his P2 top in class, and we were like :frustrated: as he didn't get anything the previous year. Either someone forgotten to inform us or the school run out of budget that year. It is not about the money but the recognition the child deserved. -

GepMum, does your son take the school bus ? Is yes, approx what time does the bus pick up kids from Woodlands ?
We are in Yishun, you need to check whether they have bus to Sembawang - think they have. The bus picks him up at 6:25 in the morn from our place. -

Was NYPS his 2nd choice? What if it is not one of your choice? They may not give you consideration and may post him to HP or NH whichever has vacancies.
No second choice. She was dead set at first about ACPS cos got kaki. Then turn out like that. Last year, I didn't even know Henry Park was GEP school (or how many GEP schools there were), and I never heard them talk about it. But yes, sounds like her son could have been sent to HPPS if no vacancy at NYPS. -
