phtthp:

Sec 1 Joint Integrated programme, for P6 pupils:-

      http://www.catholichigh.moe.edu.sg/

This is from St Nicks - http://sngsintegratedprogramme.com/

Our principal had a sharing on IP@St Nicks yesterday but unfortunately I couldn't make it.

      Did anyone go? Any feedback?

      TIA.

Impressive specially catered IP Prog like:
Academic Prog, Readiness Prog and Lifeskills & Character Prog.
Principal has also stressed that non IP girls (O Level track) will be given equal opportunity in other areas.
      So no disparity treatment.

May I know if anyone daughter has managed to get into St Nic under Phase 2B but staying >2km?

From past statistic shown, none stay'g > 2km could get in.
Only those stay'g within 1km stand a chance but need balloting too.
        All the best!

        Hi,

Best regards! May I know where can I check the statistic? Thks!

          mama of 2:
I was thinking of creating a new Thread but noticed that all St Nicholas Girls' School related questions are in this single thread so pardon me if I somehow interrupt any topic currently being discussed.

My daughter is in P1 and Chinese is very tough for her. She had Chinese subject back in K1 & 2 but I didn't expect that she didn't learn much and that it is not enough.

How did my daughter get in to CHIJ? I once googled 'Top Primary Schools in Singapore' and one of the results was this school. Within 2km from my place, I registered her and got the slot in the balloting. I had no idea that no other language is offered other than Chinese.

Now first term has just ended and my daughter is too much struggling in Chinese. I searched again on the internet for a private (1 to 1) tutor but non replied among all that I emailed.

By the way, my family is not Chinese. It's my fault that I didn't consider sending her to Chinese tuition before P1. It's because all I wanted initially was to send my daughter to one of the top schools here and just choose Malay as it is easier (much much I guess) than Chinese.

I am not considering other schools at the moment. I am happy about the school, the very nice and approachable teachers.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

P1 is still not too late to catch up, just need to work a bit more than others and it would be able to make it. I have a Chinese neighbour son scored high destination for Malay in O level, no one in his family speak Malay too. Good luck.

Thank you mama of 2. I am now looking for a private tutor for her. None of those I email has replied yet. Anyone who could recommend a tutor for my daughter please?
If you are still looking, I know an experienced tutor. She teaches Pre-school to Secondary school students. She has been teaching for about 21 years. 13 years in mainland china and 8 in Singapore. She is patient and loves children. After my children was taught by her, they were able to attain A1 for their express chinese O paper and A stars for their PSLE chinese paper. As of what I know, many of her other students have done well for their chinese under her. She also has experience in teaching at tuition centres in Singapore If you are interested, please pm me.

School usually upload Pri 1 Registration statistics in early June in web site.
If not, do call school to confirm.

Did St Nicks parents here realise the sch removed the "banding" and "grouping" of results for P1 and P2 this year?

What are your views? Thought the banding and grouping were fine, at least parents have a gauge of their kids’ standard across the co-hort.

Not just for P1 and 2, but for other levels too. I suspect that it could be the new format/direction set by the new P.

I do like the old format too. I agree that it gave us a rough gage of a student's standing in the cohort straight away. Perhaps my maths is not so great, so the new indicators of standard mean, max and standard deviation is more obscure to me.

Maybe the school is trying to be more encouraging to the girls and to reduce their stress by not revealing their placing. Afterall, they are going to give the top 3 girls in each class an award from this year onwards.

My dd is in P4 this year. I too prefer the old \"group\" category. Definitely gives me a better sense of where dd stands in relation to the whole cohort, and is a more accurate indication to me as to the areas of improvement needed.

I think that the new format is fine for the lower primary levels. But for the higher primary levels, the old format works better (at least for me).
