This year, just in my daughter's class, there are 3 cellist, wonder if thats a good or bad news. Good side: the school needs quite a number of cellist. Bad side: if this year they have so many cellist, not many MIGHT be needed next yearMy DD is in CO and she plays the cello. NYGH is her dream school. We are going to try DSA and I would like to seek some parents' here.
Any of your child is in CO? Anyone plays the cello? Are there many cellist in CO? My friend told me, if for a particular year, the school doesn't need many cellist (or RUAN, Er-hu etc), the school will limit the number of DSA. Is it true?
Hope some mummies & daddies can give me some advise. TIA. -

Cockroach:
Erm, hi, i am not sure abt the camp but this year sec 1 batch had only 1 gep class. for this year, 2012, no trail for swimming because students in this cca are determined via gep/appeal. Volleyball, yes there is a trail but the chances of students(not gep/appeal-ers) are very slim, but yet still possible.
Thanks. But what do you mean \"determined via gep/appeal“? this year, once you accept co,you will not be allow to appeal. -

Had called NGHS and been told that they will call in late July to notify if selected. Do keep a lookout for their call..... :xedfingers: -
Typically, how many hours of sleep does your gal get per day? Does she need to sleep late every night because of homework or projects?
Thanks. -
Hi all,
My dd applied for DSA (track and field) but was not short listed for interview recently.
Does that means she has absolutely no chance?
I hear from some source that some pupils may bypass the interview process and are given a place directly because of good trials ranking and good GAT result. Is this true?
Please share. Thanks. -

I heard , last year, there were some GEPs who got offer without interview. How did you know your DD is not shortlisted? the interview is still going on. Why not call them ?Hi all,

hi, im a student in NYGH now. They do a lot to help weaker students with their Chinese. However, the learning system is not for the lazy and uninterested. My teacher gives a self-learning worksheet for each chapter in the textbook, which includes several practice questions and some links to good resources with quizzes to ensure that we fully understand the chapter. She does not require us to hand in such work, but she would go through the chapter roughly to clarify our doubts. She spends more time telling us stories in Chinese about China history (I learnt more during Chinese lessons than during History lessons) and general knowledge.
However, some students take this the wrong way. Instead, they see the lessons as \"no homework\" or \"do other homework\" or \"play phone time\". My teacher does not like to reprimand them, but also speaks to the class often about attitude.
The only reasons some students do not do well in Chinese is that they have the wrong attitude, do not put in effort, or that they are not strong in the language (not many, but they do try very hard to improve.)
hope this helps
i've grown to love Chinese more than the language I use the most in conversations (English)
