Hi! All:
I went to the orientation yesterday and almost settle all the things and now waiting for the big day.
My son was very excited and enjoy yesterday with his new shirt, new pant and new school bag. And he told me he got 2 new friends already. As a parent, we also feel so happy and take some photos. However, felt very hot in the hall, luckily the orientation not drag until 5.30pm.
I was quite puzzled to notice that some kids were not wearing the uniform, do you think because their parent was totally “bo chap”? Or course maybe some special reason, like they not able to buy the uniform during the mentioned date as they travelling -----. However, I feel not comfortable when seeing this.
Baby2momma, u went alone or with hubby? Long time never heard from star89 already. -
Hi

Anna...we should have used name tags to identify the mommies
was pretty pleased with the Principal and the info given by the teachers.
Also liked the fact that the school kids were very polite and showed lotsa school spirit.
Had a chat with the P and found her to be pleasant .
My son luved the school and is so so excited for next year.
Only sad part is that P1s in DLS still have SA1
oh well .... -
Dear milkomome:
Don worry, we will have chances to meet again, your first kid to go to school?
i think most of the kids enjoy on that day, anyway, i saw a boy cried and rejected to go to the hall. I think the parent must put lots of effort to prepare him for the school opening, otherwise it is very tough and stress for the boy on that day. -
yup..I saw that little boy too...poor thing huh??
nope... my daughter is in CHIJ OLQP P4 next year
did you guys sign up for PV?? -
I did not sign up for PV, this is totally out of the picture for a working mother.
However, our company is emphasized on community work. Every year we will go to visit old folk home, bring them for outing, blood donation at our office and also orphan house. Next 2 weeks, we will go to SUNBEAM, an orphan house in CCK. (Stayed in CCK for few years already and until now I just know that there is an orphan house here). I will bring my son go also, lets him learn how to appreciate of what he has now. -
wanted very much to sign up for PSG but like
wat Anna mentioned, it is impossible for
weekday commitments for FTWM …
did u all meant that crying kid who refused to
let go of his mommy’s leg? he was not in uniform
right? i hope we were talking about the same kid.
any of u signed for bus transport?? it is a whopping
$45 per month…mayb can contemplate shifting
near to dls so as to save on bus fare… " )
but anyway, dls is moving to teck whye for 2 whole
years so guess most kids wld need bus service… -
The crying boy I saw was in uniform, that’s mean got 2 crying kids so far.
I’ve sign up a bus transport; my hubby told me is $40 for 2 ways and $30 for one way, how come you said $45 per month? I think maybe due to different transport provider.
Baby2momma: why u need the bus service? Why not you ask your maid to send/fetch him?
I am a bit worry he will not know which bus to get in on the first day. I am thinking to take half day noon leave on the first day to monitor this. Furthermore, since the government is giving 6 days child care leave, must fully utilized. Hee ! Hee! Always support government in this manner. -
i need bus transport coz my maid still need to
care for my little girl....
yup - mine's $45 coz area further frm DLS.
my bus operator told me even if one-way
oso kena charge same.
i stay at yew tee mah.....
dun worry about bus. they are very organized
as my boy has been taking school bus for the past
3 years anyway whilst in kindergarten so he is
used to the school bus sytem.

Distance is also a factor for difference in transport rates. Children in different areas can/may be charged differently. $45 per month is pretty standard if you're staying within the school's radius. If you try calculating the amount one has to pay when sending on their own via public transport, the amount cud be higher. Factor in 2 persons travel expenditure. Child + Adult (sender). Also if it rains, it's inconvenient plus even with umbrella child + sender will still get wet. Shoes, socks and bag can get wet and make child uncomfortable in class. If not, have to pack all in plastic bags... then upon reaching the school, have the child put on everything before entering the school.Anna Ng:
Children have specific name tags for identification. Teachers also have a list of children taking transport. Bus operators sometimes either assign number stickers or coloured stickers to the children so they know which group/bus they are in. Before dismissal, teachers would have the children separated in their dismissal groups. ie. Children fetched by elder sibling/parent + children taking transport. Upon dismissal the children will join their respective queues to board the bus and head-counts will be done to match their transport list.I am a bit worry he will not know which bus to get in on the first day. I am thinking to take half day noon leave on the first day to monitor this. Furthermore, since the government is giving 6 days child care leave, must fully utilized. Hee ! Hee! Don't worry, my girls have taken transport since nursery days. They enjoy it very much. Plus rain or shine they arrive in school and back home, safely and on time.
Hope this sharing will help to assure other parents with children taking school transportation.
