      Hi.

My kids were in Kumon math in the kindergarten years.
It laid down a good foundation for them and they have been excelling in Math all these years.
My elder was in kumon math till P2.
The reason for discontinuation was because it does not follow the syllabus.
The technique in answering math questions is very important.

      I have pm u.

I agree with carebear… i wont recommend Kumon for upper primary esp 1 year away from PSLE. My kids are taking Kumon but they are much younger. Kumon is concerned abt speed & accuracy but not concepts.

Also Kumon has daily homework, this may be added stress for your DD.

You may wish to explore other tuition centres (eg Visible Math/Onsponge/Concept Math - discussed at other threads) or find a good 1-to-1 tutor for her to tackle the areas she is weak at.

Have a friend who is a primary school teacher.

She said one of her pupils did badly in math but in kumon the child was doing very well.
That shows that the pupil has the potential to do well in the mainstream syllabus math if she is guided with the proper techniques.
            PSLE math require techniques.
Once implanted with the correct way to approach the subject and even the child is not the cream of the crop, he or she can do well.

My kids used to laugh at me for not being able to solve their math questions when in my pri and sec sch days, I used to top my math class  !

kumon math aiming to make children thinking faster by seeing only, so i can say, it must remember by heart.
its good for preschool as the worksheet will start from lowest level, and also will have tracing number worksheet.

Thanks! How does it really work? I can also find tracing number exercises from bookstores.

Yup you can find similar exercises from bookstores. but kumon worksheet selling on bookstore is different from the center.
also they will keep repeating the worksheet till your child really able to move on to the next step.
if you buy from the bookstore how many book you will buy for the same topic? 😄

btw i didnt take kumon math for my son, i did asked for assesment but finally decided not take math on kumon. my son hate kumon.... wkwkwkwkwk.
