MsRin:
Decided to switch my girl from Mindstretcher to LC after seeing no improvement from MS for the past 1yr. Went for assessment at both LC JE & Holland. Understand that LC Holland would be under Teacher Stefan who's a full time teacher there. Seems friendly and have a way with children. Have yet to see the JE teacher, as the teacher who assess my girl would be transfer to the BT branch soon, therefore LC JE told me that I would have to select a preferred time and day for my girl to attend a trial lesson, and to see if I am ok with the teacher. Anyone have feedback on teacher Stefan and the teachers at JE. Would appreciate your FB. BTW my girl will be with Launchpad. TIA
Hi,
I had pm you. -
Hi Rin
You’re right about teacher Stefan from LC Holland, the kids do love his manner. What I like about him is that he speaks clearly and offers intelligent feedback each time we ask him about the progress of our daughter, and what we should do to help her at home. We have also seen that her confidence and speech has definitely improved since we signed her up under him. Just my 2 cents, hope it helps with your decision making. -
Any feedback on Teacher Rebecca or Teacher Nikki at LC JE branch?
TIA

Hi, can i chk with parents who have or had kids in Liftoff Program, is it true that they have weekly spelling thr’out the program?
Do you find your kids improved significantly after the completion of this program?
I also noticed that they dont cover grammar until their Success Program (ie P1 level)… -
Hi, yes for Lift-Off there is spelling every week….as for Grammer, there is actually bits and pieces covered in the next level program after Lift-Off (Preparation for School –PFS). Lift-Off is very much a reading program, so if you are looking something to increase reading fluency, I would think it is quite a good program (a lot of coding and decoding). They also do some comprehension skills in Lift-Off which is good for testing the kids’ understanding of what they are reading…

Hi sean wife
Thanks for sharing!
I went to visit one centre last week, saw their workbooks, seems like a pretty structured program. I also like that they teach the kids not only phonics but sight words as well. Just that I thought i heard the co-ordinator wrongly when he said weekly spelling.. not sure if that's abit too much for a preschooler. -
ILoveChubby,
U r welcome! As for spelling, u can take it easy, so long u don't expect full marks each time....
Somehow I don't think it is worth spending a lot of time to drill on the spelling list... If the child does not use it again, probably will soon be forgotten anyway. Has your child been exposed to spelling in his kindy yet?

-
Hi sean wife!
I def dont expect full or even passable marks for his spelling ...
No, his kindy does not hv spelling until K2.
You are prob right abt them forgetting the words aft a while.. it will be pure memory work for them if they dont read or/and understand the words.
Did your kids go thr' Loff - PFS - Success?... Just curious, is PFS conducted in one term before they start P1? -
Hi iLoveChubby,
For spelling, 10 words a week is actually not too bad, but just whether how much time u think is worthwhile to spend learning them. Many people say spelling is easy if phonics foundation is good, but somehow I find that for my kids they still need to rely quite a bit on their memory rather than pure phonics skills as there can be many different ways of spelling for the same sounds and also many exceptions to phonics rules... Maybe it's my kids problem..hahaha
Anyway PFS is actually for those who have finished LiftOff but not in P1 yet...there are 6 workbooks for PFS, one for each term, so theoretically a kid can be in PFS for 6 terms. My kids finished the LiftOff in June, and just started with their PFS this month. If they stay on with LCentral, they will still be in PFS next year since they will not be in P1 yet next year.

Hi sean wife
I agree with you - many words cannot be read/spelt using phonics but pure memory work.
Your kid is fast to complete Liftoff in K1!...
Hmmm 6 terms for PFS?... so long?... does the kid need to complete the full PFS program before he/she goes up to Success program or they are allowed to \"skip\" certain terms?
