If is not than they will stay at the same class from P4 onward till P6, am i right?

have been very busy for the past few months. Just logged into the forum to catch up on some of the posts.


I find the education level nowadays is way too high for our little kid to cope. It is very stressful everyday that they have so much to squeeze into their little brain.

After reading Samsel’s posts, it is worse! I thought the streaming only starts from P3?? My idea is that P1 & P2 is to build up their foundation and familiarise with the curriculum.

Samsel, may I know where did you get the information? Is it from the school website?

Didn’t manage to go for the sports fiesta…was very busy at work. Probably will go for the next year’s. It should be a good experience for both parents and the kids. Any idea if we can bring along their little brother to join in the fiesta?

I had attended the sports fiesta for last 3 yrs. This year, went to see DS one at the hall first, then went to see DD who was playing captain's ball in the field.


Quite fun to see the kids play, but i hope the sch or teachers had taught and inculcated the values of sports to the students too. I remember when DD was in P1, her team came in first, but because one of them did not follow the rules (was supposed to bounce the ball but he didn't), the team got disqualified.

DD was ok at that point, but when she reached home, i was told that she apparently cried :slapshead:

Then this year, she - and her teammates - did terribly at captain's ball, and I was told that they had never practised before (not sure how true). It would have been better fun had they had the chance of some proper training beforehand.

The one comment I have for this year is that for the P3-6 groups, as a parent I would have appreciated it if there were more ways to inform parents where each child/student is when we reach there. Various groups are assigned different locations so we struggle to find our kids...

But I do feel that it was good fun.

Actually my info on my previous post is obtained personally, cos my child is in P3 now, so that’s my experiences. I guess from this year onwards, P1 & P2 will not be as stressful as last time cos they will not have any major exams till P3. However, don’t think we could relax too much cos if we do that, how can they take it when at P3, suddenly all the exams and stress comes? I heard from parent whose child is in upper primary, there’ll be a big jump in academic at P4, & then jump again at P5 & P6.
From what I know, streaming goes on till P4. At P5 & P6, no change to class anymore. So P3 & P4, there’ll be changes if one doesn’t do well that year. Like P3A can still go to P4E if the child doesn’t score well and likewise, P3E can still go to P4A if the child does well!
As for the Sports Fiesta, it’s indeed an enjoyable one! And to make this happen, we must also give thanks to all the Parent volunteers who helped out unconditionally on that day!
About the lack of information to locate P3-6, I’ll feedback to the school about this. I too find it difficult to locate my child on that day. I think this only applies to upper primary, P1 & P2 are at the hall so quite straightforward.

This is what I heard regarding the streaming (and thus not sure whether it’s true):


P1 : "streaming" based on family background. I believe it could not be segregation but most likely distribution…?

P1 -> P2 : no change

P2 -> P3 : based on subjects Eng/Math

P3 -> P4 : based on subjects Eng/Math

P4 -> P5 : based on subjects Eng/Sci

P5 -> P6 : no change

Other than streaming into classes, there is this subject banding. For example, if your child is in A class but weak in Science, during Science period, he may need to go to B class during Science period. Likewise, eventhough your child is in B class but strong in Science, during Science period, he will go to A class during the Science lesson.

This will enable teacher to focus on students with similar ability, also using the right approach. Strategies adopted by teacher from better class may not work in weaker class.

For Sports Fiesta, I didn’t have problem locating my child as he knew which game he was participating in and also where. So, you need to communicate with your child if the school does not provide the info.

Since this streaming thing is being discussed again, maybe it would be useful for me to copy and paste what I posted 2 yr ago (page 1 of this thread):



Attended a tea session with the Principal (VP was there too) yest. i was told that such PR/outreach/communication sessions are quite popular nowadays.

Useful info that anyone interested in YZPS include:

- school is supposed to be relatively stress-free for P1-4, where school makes students like school (learn, make friends, play bit) and homework is not really heavy. but when it comes to P5 onwards, they really pump up homework in order to start prepare students for PSLE.

- for P1-2, students are put into classes based on race, gender distribution. Nothing to do with ability/grades. P3 got 2 classes (3A and 3B) that contain students who did well in P2 for English + Maths. All other P3 classes are equal in ability (like P1, 2). For the good classes, students are stretched more by their teachers.

- for P4, there is national streaming, where they now grade students according to results in English + Science (no longer Maths). Good students who make some cut-off are included in a ‘Alpha Programme’, where they are stretched. They are stringent in their cut-off, so forget about appealing.

- some of their better students might not be from 6A or 6B. Eg. the principal said they are expecting a dark horse this year in 6C (or was it 6D).

- the school chose to use soft teaching methods like drama for lower pri, rather than use journaling.

- there is also swimming lessons, but it’s really to instill water safety and water confidence, rather than to groom competitive swimmers.

- the school will move towards single-session as part of the national initiative, but it will not happen in 2011.

But of course not sure whether anything has changed significantly in these 2 years (other than the part about single-session, which we now know will happen in 2013).

Yup, must admit that I didn’t ask DD specifically about what she was playing (didn’t realise that fr P3 onwards, they have different games, cos in P1 and P2 all the classes gather at the hall to play the same thing) and where it was going to be, beforehand.

Was kinda busy that particular week+ as DW was overseas… and I guess i underestimated how big the group was going to be that day.

Mentioning about the swimming lessons, I was wondering if the lesson is open to all levels that is from P1 - P6? My DD loves to swim but we have not put her into any swimming lessons so far.

Was hoping she can learn something from the school’s CCA programme eg swimming, arts etc.

Just to confirm, YZPS will go single session by 2013?


Anyone had same dillema as me before?
Am considering YZPS cos it’s a mixed school.
However, it has no affiliation to secondary school.
My other choices are PLMGS or CHIJ at Lor Chuan.
Any views to share?

Yes, it is confirmed that YZPS will go single-session next year. There was a letter from the school to parents saying this a few months ago.


I enrolled both my kids there, without thinking about sec sch affiliations…
