      Gina Chin:
      Hi

I took my boy to Math Monkey@Novena for a free trial. Surprisingly he told me he would like to join them and he said \"Mum, never knew Maths can be fun\" as Math Monkey uses a game based curriculum to teach the students Mental Maths. He has been there for 2 months. He tries their challenging and creative homework by himself and also looks forward to go for his class every week. :xedfingers: He seems more confident about Maths now and no longer feels so hateful towards it. It makes his day whenever he wins at the games and beat the other students in solving Maths with speed! I am glad I am able to turn his 'hate maths' attitude around. Whew!
      Gina 😄
Was just reading the thread and glad to hear that your boy is enjoying himself. Out of interest, is Math Monkey an enrichment or remedial type of center? Are the games focused on just mental maths?

Hi there! Math monkey is an enrichment center. Not a place for remedial. They told me their curriculum is built around vedic maths, where it helps develop a young child brain’s capacity in both analysis and logic. Most important, they claimed their games are meant to build mental speed for the children. When they are having fun and they want to win at the games, they learn to stretch themselves more!

You may goggle their web site for more information and watch math monkey videos on line. (this was what i did before sending my boy there). The staff there told me it would be better for kids to start early at age of 4, to understand & learn the fundamentals of numbers n techniques to mental calculation. If they learn Maths in a fun way, they will not be wary of it when they grow older. You can call 63569384 to fix date for free trial if you wish. Good luck! Gina

Hi, any feedback on Serena’s Greenhouse? Saw on the Happening Thread they are conducting a holiday class for P5 pupils. Deciding between Norman Tien and Serena’s Greenhouse. Norman Tien’s holiday workshops have too many pupils in a group.

My DS just joined this year and enjoys the lessons. There will be weekly mini tests or quiz to test the kids on what they learn and the kids are expected to revise the work. At first, he feels that he is not as good as some of the kids in his class. But now he is gaining confidence as he is improving. I learnt a method BHA method from him. He can use it to solve some of the challenging questions. So I am really happy. Parents are expected to monitor and supervise to make sure the children revise their work. Both Teacher Serene and Mrs Teo stress that the children must revise their work.

Hi all out there, do check out KiasuParent’s article about S.A.M or Seriously Addictive Maths, posted on 30 August. If I may suggest, that seems like the most relevant continuous Maths program for Primary school kids in Singapore.

Hi there, if you have time, you may like to check up on Vedic Math on Scribd.com. You can download the books for free reading.

I went through a few pages and it’s very good. I believe the Speed Math books in some bookshops is based on Vedic Math since it is an ancient Math. Vedic Math is great for addition, subtraction, speed multiplication, speed division and squares.

                        Hi mummies

Me n another mum are considering of setting up a jei / psle enrichment centre. They do not have a centre near by our house. So thought of setting up one for our kids convenient at the same time we are both very passionate in preschool n primary maths.

We did extensive study comparing all available programs (the big ones) and think jei / psle maths program has very balanced program, effective approach and well received by many parents. Refer to another thread in this forum that elaborate about this program vs others

Together we want to make the centre a success in the shortest time possible.Any mum wants to join in the partnership? It will b good if we can have another like-minded mum to join as partner. Both to share risk n resource. As we are both FTWM, so with another partner joining in wil share work load too. Please pm me for details if you are interested.

We want to finalise the partnership by this month. Please pm me asap for more info if you are interested.

                        Rgds
