wow, i tot i’m the only one being paranoid over next yr’s P1 registration (gal’s born in 2004), hahaha… seems like many parents are the same, phew…
any Yew Tee mummies here?
we’re looking at 3 schools - Unity, Yew Tee and De La Salle. However, DLS is moving to Teck Whye for 2 yrs (2011 - 2012) due to upgrading of current school, so we’ll prob drop this option.
Unity & Yew Tee Pri… both need to ballot even for those within 1 KM. hiaz… really headache, headache, headache. -

is it good to put her in all girls school as she is a shy, no confident & no outspoken child? i was fm mixed school and couldn't imagine what would happen in all girls environment. (for myself, i prefer mixed! :lol: ) was told by her childcare teacher that she is independent ( maybe no friends) and mature, other girls like to form group but she doesn't. seem to me that she can get along better with boy classmates!
Is CCA important for them to enter to secondary school? if my girl is not good at sport, is it better to put her in a school which has affiliated secondary school?
When choosing a school, do we need to consider if the school is GEP, SAP or stellar programme? what are the pros & cons ?
if you want to worry about sec school, SCGS will be better bet cos it's the only one with affiliation. RGPS is NOT affiliated to RGS.
CCA helps (at least sec school onwards, I'm not familiar at pri level) if you are in those unpopular groups (like band) and the school desperately needs pp to fill places; or if you are very good in something. Figure PSLE is safer bet?
SAP = increased emphasis on chinese. Some I see conduct their speeches, outings etc in CHINESE (I was amazed....). GEP probably if there is spillover effect, or if your girl gets selected next time, she wun have to change school.

Like yourself, I was also in dilemma this year when trying to place my kiddo in the 3 schools you mentioned & that was when I joined this forum .... u really hv to think properly & strategise and hv back-up plan
coz all 3 schools are very popular due to the cut-down of intake in their P1 registrations & also the standards of the school hv vastly improved over the years..... finally i chose DLS & went for balloting & thank god managed to secure a place for my son.
If u hv time, do read up our past posts in the CCK schools thread & u will
probably learn more about the 3 schools....

You mentioned your husband's primary school is now closed. Could it have been merged into other schools? Have you verified?
Hi Qms, I just googled and found http://www3.moe.edu.sg/prime/dgp/kallang/primary_sch/may_pr/may_pr.htm that it was merged to the current Farrer Park Pri.....
ok qtns, how do we register wif this school? Do we have to show our old report books? PSLE results?

yup, hv gone thru the CCK schools thread previously, and also experience the "heart-attacking" moments with the CCK mummies during this yr’s P1 registration exercise, hahahaha… that’s why am getting more panaroid as the days passes. esp so since i’m due early Jan… 3rd bb gal on the way, hiaz… -

More privileges for citizens in P1 registration
Parents who are Singapore citizens will now have a higher chance of securing a place for their child in their school of choice during the Primary One (P1) registration exercise.
From 2010, parents who are Singapore citizens will be given two ballot slips instead of one, whenever balloting is conducted by any school.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Education (MOE), this measure will serve to differentiate Singapore Citizens and PRs, providing citizens with additional privileges.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a speech delivered at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Students’ Union Ministerial Forum on 15 Sep this year, that the Government will, over time, sharpen the differentiation between citizens, PRs and foreigners to reflect the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship.
International students will continue to be eligible to register after citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) are placed, at Phase Three (for non-citizens/-PRs) of the P1 registration exercise.
Increase in school fees for PRs and foreign students
The Government will also be increasing the school fees of PRs and international students in 2011.
It stated that fees for PRs will increase by between $36.50 and $73 per month, and those for international students will increase by between $100 and $400 per month.
To minimise the impact on existing students, the increase will be spread over two years from 2011.
According to MOE’s statement, fees will remain competitive compared to international and private schools, to continue to encourage PRs and foreign students to join mainstream schools. -

The change seems to matter most for people who live within 1km of their preferred school. A SC living >1km still has to wait after SC+PR get their places before eligible for balloting… So now, properties within 1km of popular schools will be even hotter!!
