Yes, Jap is the most popular 3rd Lang. There's bus transport to MOELC as well, during the days when most people go for 3rd lang. (Back then, my 3rd Lang days was Mon and Wed; which was the standard days for Nanyang girls)

Unless you specifically request a class change, you'll most likely be in a class with other schoolmates. Yupps!

So, there is actually no need to install air-conditioners in classrooms.

my daughter is currently in scgs and she got 257+2 for psle last yr

just recently, she took the nygh admission test to enter in sec 2
does anyone know if she stands a gd chance as there were a lot of international students taking the admission test as well

@ pummanuel Hello! It's so nice to see a senior here! *hugs* I'm missing NYGH terribly after reading your post. For all the hard work, mugging, tears and tantrums, it's a precious experience I wouldn't trade for anything else. ITA about the school culture; times may have changed but that has clearly remained intact. That's probably one of the best things ever about NYGH; the nurturing and supportive environment. Heck, even the school support staff are very nice and helpful; was Uncle Jack around in your time?

Hello Micko07, I miss NYGH terribly too. The attachment gets stronger with every passing year. I also went to HCJC after NYGH and took HC (didn't go for LEP though I was eligible for it).

During my time, there was another Uncle Black (not sure if I got it right). He died several years back, so I guess Uncle Jack was after his era. Some of the girls attended his wake then. In fact, a few teachers have also passed away. Afterall, it's been nearly 20 years since we graduated. Whenever we hear such news, we will be saddened for several days.

I strongly agree with you, the supportive environment seeps into every inch of the NYGH community. I remember the laboratory assistant (a kind motherly lady during my times) was a strong pillar of support during our O levels lab tests with her reassuring smile when we stepped into the lab. And if any of the girls fumbled during the test, she will act so quickly (to replace tube, wipe the table) etc that you can go back to your test immediately.

Oops, it's nearly 8am now. Got to wake my girl up for school.

But weather in Singapore is usually above 28 or 29 degrees. Sometimes it can hit between 30 to 32. Furthermore, our climate is very humid.

So, air-conditioners is a must have.

Cannot lah, later the kids will become very spoiled. If the classrooms are all air-conditioned, global warming will be more serious. The events in the movie 2012 will become real... (scary thought)

Some people mentioned that the chinese standard at RGS isn't too good, & my dd had chosen NYGH over RGS partly for this reason. Any student can comment about NYGH chinese & english standard?

NYGH has a good history of bilingualism. While RGS girls are very smart and are well capable of high standard chinese, I suspect the general environment there is still subconsciuosly bias and most of the students speak English there. NYGH is certainly a good choice.


When the role of China and US changed and China become a consumption-based economy, the whole world will have to, generally, tilt towards chinese language speaking as everybody have to sell things or provide services to them. Even though China has registered spectacular growth in the past two decades, it has only now truly turned to become to true net consumptor and this is significant.
