I have been wondering why short form for son is DS ?

DD - dear daughter, damn daughter, darling daughter, disgusting daughter...whichever is suitable at that point in time, lor...but DD nevertheless !!!

The same with \"DS\" (dear son, damn son...etc).
      And \"dh\" refers to \"d...husband\".

        Differs by cohort's performance.

Is it true if you are offered 3rd language, you are within 10%?

According to my child's P, top 10% is 250 and above. Top 30% is 230 and above.
The principal may only be roughly correct. My DS got 249 and has all the 3rd languages (F, G, J) + Malay and Arabic, so according to the 3rd langugae logic, the top 10% can be 249 or lower.

But of course it should be around 245 -255 each year, so the principal is correct to guessestimate the figure of 250. I think MOE also never tell principals what the score is, so they also don't know.

              Extracted from a school's website.

\"Q: What are the eligibility criteria for taking HMTL?

              1.Top 10% PSLE pupils

              OR

2.Top 11 – 30% PSLE pupils with an A* in the Mother Tongue Language (MTL) OR at least a MERIT in the Higher Mother Tongue Language (HMTL)\"

              Hope the above helps.

I think the above info is in the PSLE booklets given.

That is quite misleading bcos you have not post the full facts.

If you are offered Higher Mother Tongue Language, you are not necessary top 10%, you could be in the top 11-30%. (BECAUSE it is \"OR\")

Read further down the PSLE booklets given, you are only sure that you are top 10% IF and ONLY IF you are offered French, German or Japs.

As ooptimizer has confirmed that her daughter got 249 & was offered Frnch, German or Japs, we can only conclude that this year's cohort of top 10% is 249 or higher.

(Unless anyone who is 248 or lower can confirm that their DS or DD also was offered F,G or Jap ?)

Does anyone knows what is last year’s top 10%?

(as someone has said the top 10% this year is likely 249 and above).

This year’s results seemed to be lower than the past years, does anyone agrees with me?
