mummy so kiasu:
      G Tan:
My kid attended the writers toolbox at clementi branch , I agreed with some parents that there are too many bombastic words used in their model compo and they are quite difficult which some kids might not be able to absorb .

bombastic words must be intorduce at the right age and right situation. Kids must be taught to use them appropriately. They sometimes just memorise and throw it int their essay for no reason.

What happen if they just memorise those bombastic words & use them without understanding it? Worse still, using those words in the wrong way. It is safer not to use them if you don't really understand their meaning. I feel that the writers tool box is more suitable for the high ability kids. It is not for every kids.
Somehow my daughter understands where to use those creative phrases. I do not ask her to memorise. Anyway she will forget after a while if she does not understand it.

However, I will also suggest to take up English first to lay a good foundation.
2013, P1 Mindstretcher English or Writer's tool box?

        which should i choose?
        thanks. 🙂

My DD goes to writer's tool box. Quite good although too many difficult words and phrases. If you take English in general, they will cover everything from grammer, vocab, compre, Oral and compo. I am thinking of shifting her to the english instead of writer's tool box although I already registered for next year. Hope they will allow me to transfer if I decide to change:)

        thanks for the feedback.
may i know if english compo is done weekly?
my choices are limited by the schedule. so Mindstretcher seems like the only viable option currently.
If you are taking English, Compo is covered once in every two weeks. If you are taking writers toolbox, you need to cover the other parts such as grammer, vocab, cloze, compre, etc on your own.

Yes, existing students get priority. Even existing students can not change their time slot under the next phase is open. :slapshead:
