Just heard from my boy that the promotion criteria to sec 3IP is not more than MSG 3. Thou my son is less than msg3 but really feel sorry for those who can't make it. Just don't understand why there is a sudden change in promotion criteria. I dun think it's fair to announce after EOY exam. M really worried for my son next year if the promotion criteria to sec4 IP is <msg3 cos the sec 3 EOY Maths exam paper is very tough. Is it true that starting from next year they have to get at least A2 for LA in order to get promoted to sec4IP as well?Haizz..no sure if m putting my sons in the right school now, giving them so much stress...din know about all these criteria before putting them in HCI. I wonder going forward how many Q class will there be with all these new promotion criteria implemented.
I also agree that it is not fair to announce this after the exam. The boys were told that this change is triggered the lowering of the CSC requirement from msg 1 to msg2. The IPSP has been removed. So now there is only CSC and IPSP.
So U mean there will be no special programme next year? Only CSE, IP n Q class only? Is the news out in the parent portal ? -

For my understanding d Structured IP is their normal IP classes . And the sch does not used Term 3 results to promote the boys. Why d dean mention Term 3 results n not EOY results for promotion?Mr Kiasu:
School just informed that promotion criteria for Sec 2 is MSG<3.0 instead of MSG<4.0. Anyone who scores  MSG>3.0 will go to \"Structured\" IP. This is causing a lot of distress to Sec 2 students now. They should have been informed of the promotional criteria well below their EoY exams and not now when results for all subjects have been released.
Structured IP is essentially Hwa Chong's O-Level stream.
Don't be unduly worried in the mean time; DS said the dean said in assembly that about 40% of all S4 students cannot promote using Term 3 results. We can only wait and hope for the best for the young ones. -
I thot structured IP is Q class preparing for O level? For those getting below MSG 3 will go into normal IP with this new promotion criteria?

It sounded like that the dean was talking to the boys before EOY, encouraging them to focus and study harder, as if their results stay the same for EOY, then they are in trouble. -

CSE or IPSP paper are even more challenging than the usual IP papers but the promotion criteria did not adjust for CSE and IPSP for promotion to JC1 leh. Liddat who dare to option for entry to CSE and SP subjects?calculator7200:

My understanding is slightly different. Those with MSG higher than 3 are put into Structure IP classes, they will be given more structured curriculum and with reduced project work and may need to scale back some of the other non-academic activities. By the end of Sec 3, if the results are much better, then they will be back to IP classes, need not sit for O Level.
In a way, it is better to have early wake-up call, instead of waiting till end of Sec 4. The promotion criteria from Sec 4 to JC is MSG 3.0 too, and it is actually much harder for Sec 4, as there are many more subjects and no exam exemptions allowed. -

Otah, this is my concern too. -

Totally confused.
Didn’t know about this new thingy until I received a sms from son’s friend’s mother.
Will there be official announcement from school to Sec 1 parents also ? Or only Sec 2 ?
Son’s MSG is <3, but did very badly for Maths. From A1 in Term 2 & 3 became C6 in EOY. I almost fainted. One of the post here said Maths in Sec 4 is very tough, so I’m wondering whether I should send him for tuition… Any advice ?
