No intrusion hehe this forum is open to public
Sorry to intrude - is this dance showcase open to public?JRLam:
Hey dance and theatre glad to have you back
ermm actually proudy mom's dd decided to choose sota dance. While melteo's dd chose not to take up the VA offer.
There's a dance showcase this wed, wonder if yr dd is performing? Or is it only for Yr 1/2 students?
Dance showcase is via invitation as mentioned by proudy mom (thanks!). You may want to check out the music showcase (tomorrow also) for which registration can be done online at sota website.
We're looking forward to the dance showcase!
Hi, yes, music showcase is opened for public through registration at SOTA website. I was there yesterday night, and today there is another showcase.
For music faculty, there is regular concerts (almost every months) which is opened for public through registration at SOTA website. I guess since it is usually held at their concert hall (which is big and can accomodate more people), therefore it is opened for public. The concerts are great, performs by the invited guests, teachers and students. So this is another way to see yourself how the students perform (before you decide to enrol your child for the audition).
For dance and theatre, mostly through invitation (normally for parents only) as they have limited seats available. -
I guess due to a large no. of participants in a single dance showcase (family members usually would want to watch), less frequent showcases, limited capacity and all, it's not open to the public.
The dance showcase was very enjoyable. It was the second time I watched sota dance showcase. The standard is definitely high. If only they could squeeze in another ballet performance :).
dance and theatre, do u get to have a recording of the girls' performances, perhaps during their rehearsals? The Chinese dance was great too. It must be hard for the girls who had to twirl the handkerchief. I'm looking at the performance schedule. The guy in the 2nd (I think) performance, is he Ivan Koh? Really fantastic dancer. He looked like a professional dancer. Everyone did really well. It's really tough having to juggle academic and the arts and excelling in both.
After leaving the drama theatre we passed by the concert hall and went in to enjoy the music showcase! The night was still early

The one thing I really wish is that SOTA would put up public performances to raise funds for the needy or the arts community. This will allow people to understand the school better and see the standards of the performances … but so far, not much being put out and many of the students perform in their own capacity, not under the school.
Amni Musfira is a wonderful singer, but seldom performs under the SOTA banner, the Theatre students are amazing, same for the Visual arts, so much talent … but the public never gets to see them. -
Hi there, my DD will be entering SOTA next year any advise ?
N does anyone know what is the title of the literature book they using in Year 1 ???

What time is your lunch time? SOTA canteen is not in full swing from the start. They had only a few stalls and the fruit stall attracts most. Also, they have a economic rice stalls which my dd says the aunty is kind and generous. However, my dds very seldom eat canteen's food. I packed bentos for them everyday since primary one so they are so used to my food. -
Hi Dasalo
Thank you for yr info abt the canteen food .
So if we prepare food for our DC do they hv microwave that our DC can warm it up or they just eat it cold . Very worry about this as she will be in Dance n she stay FULL day in campus so I m worried . -
Hi. I pack lunch for my daughter in a Japanese thermos container, or hearty sandwiches, lots of carrot and cucumber sticks, and nut bars (Uncle Toby’s or GNC). Whenever possible, extras include sausage buns or plain waffles, chocolate bread. It’s impossible to pack all the meals and most days one meal is outside which I leave it up to her. They are allowed to have meals out of school when dance starts late.
Chicken Rice at Dhoby Exchange is a fav, so too is the Sushi shop in the Cathay basement. POMO basement had some food outlets they like.
My thoughts are : It’s secondary school, you cannot worry about or cover all contingencies, you have to let go at some point. Teenagers will not deliberately starve themselves and once they have friends, they tend to want to eat where or what their friends eat. Fruit or Nut bars are great smack options, especially before dance. Just remind them to take healthier choices rather than fast food all the time. -
Thank you - dance and theatre.
You have given me some ideas of what to pack .
The reason I ask is because if they stay late in school n in between lesson at least they get some bites n not go hungry.
I m Sorry I m abit over protective especially this girl of mine n I know I need to learn to let go …
I heard that in Dance Faculty , they will tell the students if they put on weight …
So the choice of food may make a difference . -
PSLE results this Thu. I wish there's a way of knowing in advance if my dd has been posted to sota.
