I have a strange creature at home who would check his stock everyday. I supposed all the dust is already swept by his little hands, since he diligently go and visit his books everyday. Small kid la, maybe when he is older, the bookshelf will be collecting dust.Got mine from scanteak like 17 yrs ago! Even older than my eldest kid and survive one home-relocation!!
But bookshelf quite a waste of space...and collect dust...u donch actually revisit the books once they are done! -

well, that's where Popular Bookstore comes in. They now have assessment books in electronic form. It's available in the Go-Easel website. Only iPad and Android tablets are supported. So it gives the hubby a good excuse to go out and get that iPad.cimman:
get a Kindle. It will save you the cost of bookshelve and you can carry entire library of books with you always. EBooks are also cheaper than paper books.
kindle cannot store assessment books leh
With the iPad and the Kindle, that's all you need to bring along on a holiday trip. -

I'm glad to know that this topic generate a lot of interest! Plus, Kindle too :rotflmao: Actually, kindle is something that I'm considering for entertainment. More for my reading pleasure, really and hopefully the kids will get the bug.
Now back to bookshelves, I would love to get something to keep school textbooks plus assessment books. Plus, at a point of time I did think of having Billy Bookcase with door. It was great to consider having door to protect it from dust. However, after knowing the quality of the product, I hesitate. Plus, the doors are ....... :yikes: than the shelves itself.
My DH was asking me to consider Expedite shelving unit http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/categories/departments/youth_room/10382/ as he finds them more stable. What do you guys/ladies think? Honestly, for me I scared that it'll get messy. I'm trying to keep the room neat. :xedfingers:
I love the idea of scanteak :please: but still thinking. Also, thanks for the other options, I'll go thru Good Furn, Japan Home, etc. Anyone having Picket & Rail bookshelves?

Ya hor, never thought about ereaders. Any concern with detoriation of eye sight if the kid reads very often on the kindle? My dd loves to read, but the increase in her short-sightedness is a worry

may i know which branch of \"Japan Home\" shop did u go to ?I just bought a whole lot of single compartment cabinets that you can join (with wooden joints provided) and stack up any height you want. They are quite heavy, looks pretty sturdy and easy to assemble from Japan Home when they were on sale last month at $9.90 each.
I had bought one home to self assemble and is very pleased with it before I bought the rest. What I like best is the height is right for A4 size ring files and it comes in 4 colours.
Yet to collect the rest and got lots of assembling work ahead........
what is the name of these cabinet, if i ask the sales girl there ?
