...I just came back from the US where my family and I lived for almost 6 years. I am looking for a competent piano and violin teacher for my two children....

My son attended 1 year of music appreciation course when he was 5. I was happy with his progress as he could play songs using both hands and also able to read the notes.
He was interested to learn more, thus I decided to sign him up with Christofori. However, I was quite dissapointed with what was taught. He was given the Alfred basic piano book where he was taught the finger numbers instead of reading notes. I flip thru and it seems the reading notes part comes much later. Is it really necessary? I do hope someone can advise me here.
I would like to know for kids that has attend music appreciation, does this means they have to start all over again? That means from total beginner?

That’s the problem with christofori as i have a no. of transferred students from there and they have to start all over again despite of learning for 2 yrs. Waste of money and time.
Since ur son can read notes, need not start all over again but do take note that he need to know how to count the rhythm as he plays. -
Hi pianojazzy,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, he does know how to count rhythm (that’s beats, right?). So, for his case which level should he be in?
Btw, possible to PM me? -
I bought a mini kiddy keyboard for my kid about 1 yr back. it can play some music by its own (stored programming music). The original intention is purely for his entertainment purpose.
but recently, i notice he can actually manually play out the initial part of the music. we never teach him totally cos we know NUTS about musical instrument.
does it mean he has abit of musical talent? Or is this just pure coincidence or was it due to some collective memory of his?
I prefer him to be academically stronger, but he has some music talent, i don’t want to let it down the drain too. btw, he is 2.5yo only. -
Heyhoe, PMed you.
Jujuboys, kids at this age will accept whatever is thrown to them. You son have a good memory but he might be interested in music as well. Do go for some music appreciation class to cultivate his interest. -
Hi All,
I intend to enroll for Cristofori school on beginner piano lesson. Seem like have to commit a term. What I 'm afraid is that if the child does not like then waste of $$. They also don't allow to give trial also. -
Thanks pianojazzy, I’ve PM you too.
