My boy is in K1 now, and he will be enrolled in P1 in 2010. This PV stuff, how long before do we need to do it ?

Also, any website that tells us, whats the distance between the school and our address ?

Also, I stay more than 2km from Henry Park, is there any way I can get admission for my child in that school ..by donating money to the school ?

Hi chixchix, you have probably missed our http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/getting-primary-school. You will find your answer there. Also, do read up on the rest of this thread from the start and you will learn much from the experience of others.

To directly answer some of your questions:
        1. You are probably too late for PV for your K1 boy since he is going for the registration exercise next year and the PV recruitment period is officially over since 1 July this year. You may not have time to complete the mandated minimum 40hrs before the 2009 registration exercise if you start now.

        2. If you stay more than 2km from Henry Park, based on the http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/bukit-timah, you are unlikely to be able to get into the school without priority. Offering money will not help, unless it is really substantial and enables the school to develop new programmes that it currently lacks.

          Hi chixchix,

Guess at this stage you are not able to come into the PV list as most registration had been closed. What I would suggest to target school nearest to you where you have high chance in getting into Phase 2C.

I have some questions which I hope to get some replies from here:

            1. If I were to do PV, and at the same time, I make a statutory declaration for grandparent address (within 2km), will I be granted phase 2B (within 2km) for this school?

            2. Since Chief said that for 2010 intake, you need to register for PV in 2008. Is this rule mandatory? I would like to know, can I do PV in 2009 if my child P1 intake is in 2012, 2013,....?

            3. Is it possible for a mum to do PV in one school, then the dad to do PV in another school? assuming both of us are free to do so.

Sorry, all 3 questions sounds very kiasu.
But hey, this is kaisu forum right? ๐Ÿ˜„

              Hi Jujuboys,

              (i) Yes you should be granted Phase 2B (2Km or more) from your school of choice.

(ii) Normally the school don't let you do so early in the PV.For 2010 intake, registration must reach the school by May or June 08. The school may decide let the parent do PV in 2008 (Jul 08 to Dec 08) or 2009 (Jan 09 to Jun 09)

(iii) Yes it should be possible for dad & mum to do PV at separate schools.

                Hi titank,

Thanks for your quick reply. Iโ€™m absolutely clear of (2) and (3).

However, for (1), MOE policy says that:
Children who are registered using a foster parentโ€™s address and residing within 1 km of the school of choice will not be balloted together with other children residing within 1 km of their school of choice. Instead they will be balloted together with children residing between1-2 km of the school of choice.

So those grandparents staying within 1km will be downgraded to the "within 2km" category. But it did not mention that those in the "within 2km" category will be downgraded to the "more then 2km" category.

Or is this a standard practice that the distance policy will always be downgraded by 1 level when it comes to grandparent address declaration?

Don't worry, what it is saying that as long as the foster parent is within 2km of the school, it will be treated as within 2km, regardless of whether it is less than 1 or between 1-2km.

                    Chanced upon this thread.

PV for Nanyang Primary is 80 hours and not the usual 40 hours.

Some schools are very stringent with the selection of PVs and try to control the no of PVs selected so that a large % of PVs can successfully get a place without balloting. On the other hand I have heard of schools who do not control the no of PVs that they have - even though they still do the interview screening. In such schools, it is very common to see oversubscribed Phase 2B - meaning PVs dun get a chance to even ballot or even if they have a chance to ballot it is usually like 1:3 or 1:4 chance to get the place.

My friend's sister doing PV at Canberra Primary School, one of the \"future school\" that requires parents not only the 40 hours before P1 registration, but another post 40 hours once their child is successully enrol.

But I was wondering, if cannot finish the post 40 hours, how? remove the kid from school

                        KS mummies,

If you stay within 1-2km from the school and there is no balloting for the past few yrs, do you think the chances for my child to be in is high enough not to do PV for the school.

                        Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚
