      Hi,

My son is going to P1 next year.
I am deciding on whether to send him to CMA or MPM.
Which of the 2 is better and whether it will confuse them from the MOE syllabus ?

Please share your experience. Thank you.
      Hi,

      No experience with MPM.

CMA is about two-handed abacus training. If you are looking to give your child the basic foundation for Maths, you could consider CMA. After a while, you child can do mental calculations. CMA does additions, subtraction, multiplication, etc. which will help them alot when they attempt MOE syllabus. With this foundation, your DC will be able to pick up MOE syllabus without much difficulty. Of course, you have to guide your DC when attempting MOE syllabus questions e.g. assessment books, past year papers, etc.

      Hope this helps.

            Kan Cheong Spider:
            Hi,

I am planning to enroll my dd in CMA. She is 4 next year. Any recommendations/feedbacks referral in Toa Payoh, Bishan or Ang Mo Kio branches?

            Thanks.
            Hi Kan Cheong Spider,

I enrolled my child for trial lesson in AMK CMA last year. 10 mins into the class, my son was crying to get out of the class. When I asked the teacher if I could accompany him, they were not happy about it but agreed and said ok 5 mins.

When I was in the class, I observed that the teacher from China Mainland cannot speak proper English. And the actions that she was performing together with the Music(played on video) was too fast and messy. Amazing when I asked the teacher if they have an order of teaching math like from 1+1 and so on, she said no and its based on the kids learning and memorizing the songs.

The video played were multiplications and at that time, my son didn't even know simple math.

AMK CMA is run by a China Receptionist which is not very friendly. An inexperience young chinese teacher for the class that my child went for the trial. I am disappointed with the centre.

CMA will help improve speed of mental calculation but can't help with careless mistakes.

To my DD, CMA is an alternative way of solving the question n serves as a check on the answer.

                        Hope this helps
