-
It seems like COP of most of the school is 3~5 higher than aggregated marks mentioned.
Children I knew got into their second choice. -

There are of course such cases. However, given keen competition, whatever you can list that can help will hopefully give your kid a better edge.
Hi Pen88n. Have you heard of cases where appeal is successful despite no contribution from CCA? When will the result of appeal be released? Does it mean that the kid does not purchase the textbooks and uniform from the sch he/she is posted to tomorrow first just in case the appeal is successful?JRLam:
I hope this is not too late, and you are not on the way there yet. Please bring along all the pri sch results and certs, and be prepared to highlight your kid's other achievements in addition to academic. Check the sch's CCA, if your kid can contribute to their preferred CCA, be prepared to highlight that. Hope this helps.
This year there will be lots of appeal cases going around, with the increase in COP for a lot of schools. Parents & kids, all the Best to you for your appeal. But be realistic and learn to like the school you are posted during registration tomorrow, whilst waiting for your appeal results. I hope whichever school you go, you will be happy!
Thanks for your advice!
Tomorrow you can report to posted school for registration and do not purchase the textbooks and uniform yet. The appeal results can come out anytime between now to end of year, some schools may even contact in 1st week Jan.
However, I strongly recommend parents be positive with the kid when visiting the posted school tomorrow, even if you have submitted an appeal to somewhere else. Look for positive side of the posted school, learn more about the school, find out the CCA your kid can join, encourage them to know more classmates, etc. The posted school is your reality, the appeal case is a hope. Don't end up with an unhappy kid who resisted going to the posted school in case an appeal does not come through. There will be successes and disappointments, so be prepared and make your kid be resilient to accept the outcome. All the Best!!!
It seems like COPs are up 3 ~5 marks. -

I would recommend to go ahead and submit the appeal. You never know the outcome till you try.
COP 263 only mean the last student accepted into RI has T-score 263. It does not mean all 263 can get in RI. Factors affecting appeal:
1) # of vacancies left vs # of appeal cases
2) How many appeal cases are at exactly COP 263?
3) Is RI looking for other contributions in addition to academic - CCA? Note that school need not look at T-score for appeal. They have the right to decide what they want to take in for appeal based on their needs.
However, be realistic. Tell your DS this appeal is a hope, and his reality is ACSI. Tell him you are proud of him getting into his 2nd choice, and it is both your choice as well. So, tomorrow, when going to ACSI, be positive. Look out for all the positive aspects of the school. Learn about the CCA he can join. Mix around with new friends. The last thing you want is a disappointed kid who spent the next 6 years thinking he got into 2nd best only.
All the Best and most important, have a happy kid who looks forward to his sec sch journey!
