Of all the supporters of the WP, what do you understand of their stand on various policy issues?

Recent property curbs, what's WP's stand? Agree? Don't agree? Any alternative?

Education policies, apart from generalities about stress, equalisation and so forth, what specifics do they have at this point? Foreigners in schools, tighten? Loosen?

COEs, what's the WP's position? SMRT, nationalise or don't nationalise, anybody know?

      How about NS?

How about taxes? Will they be willing to stand to and say, we raise taxes to fund social programs (which I support, by the way)

This part I agree. Was thinking to myself why they haven't yet come out with concrete plans/proposals to issues that Singaporeans have been complaining.

The WP has a 63 page Manifesto 2011 on their website. People should read them before they say that WP does not take any stand on any policy issues. Whether one agrees with their proposals or not is another thing.

      Just for amusement:

      2. There should be increased support and strong incentives for employers to implement better work-life balance practices and flexi-work arrangements. The civil service should set the example for the private sector to follow.

      3. To recognise the important role of fathers in sharing the responsibilities of infant care, paternity leave of at least 6 days, half of which will be funded by the government, should be introduced and legislated.

      4. There should be more affordable, conveniently-located and quality infant care and childcare facilities made available in Singapore.

      8. Assisted conception procedures such as in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) should be partially subsidised by the Government for up to the first three treatment cycles. This will help Singaporean couples who want to have children but have difficulty conceiving. More research on improving the success rate and lowering the cost of assisted conception procedures should be initiated and encouraged by the Government. More public funds should be made availablefor such research.
Look familiar? There are other gems in there for people who bother to look.
Generalities that my MIL can cook up in the kitchen, or the Ah Pek in the coffee shop.

\"More research on improving the success rate and lowering the cost of assisted reproduction...\"

So WP is now a biomed incubator? Dun make me laugh...

      Talk is cheap.

Anyway, you have just proven the point, it took 3 pages of posts and 5 hours for someone to dig up anything of substance.

The opposition or the supporters, which to be feared? You tell me.

SDA Punggol East By-Elections Online Rally
        His campaign is turning farcical.
If he cannot articulate his points in a close setting of his choosing, how can he deliver in parliament under more trying conditions?
Ah Singh can possibly be a promising infomercial salesman.

There are other gems in there for people who bother to look.
Thanks for directing us to WP’s GE2011 manifesto, didn’t have time to dig and nearly forgotten about it. I don’t always follow the parliamentary debate very closely, but the few times I watched (esp the 1st few after WP won Aljunied), I was not too impressed.

Perhaps they do not have access to certain facts and figures to debate and put across proposals more convincingly. In any case, to “fight” against PAP, we really need concrete evidence and arguments. Thorough research needs to be done first before anyone, especially the opposition party says anything in parliament. Look at Gerald Giam’s first parliamentary speech and how he was shot down? PAP just need to cite ONE case to discredit him. The government works on FACTS and FIGURES, that’s the only way we can convince them. If we wanna change anything, we need a SOLID proposal.

Hazel Poa from NSP is someone whom I see to have a sense of how the government works. As she was a government scholar who had worked in the government sector previously, she knew exactly how they worked. 知己知彼,百战百胜. Did you read her report against MBT HDB policy during GE2011? It was really good, filled with convincing facts and statistics (government style). Even her rebuttal after MBT’s reply was indisputable.

I agree with the criticisms of WP, but if I could vote, I would vote for more competition in politics. Singaporeans are a competitive bunch, so it’s strange that we are okay with one party sitting on its laurels, praising itself and monopolising the system.

A little healthy competition among the political parties will be good for us. I think we all know from the school system that having appropriate competition makes students work harder. Having no competition makes them complacent.

In terms of managing the town council, WP has proven that it can do the job, so it’s "safe" to vote for it.
This is what people mean by voting for the sake of opposition. If WP was sincere they would have place a better person for a candidate. Which they should have...

LLL might not seem to be the best candidate. At least she looks sincere & at least better than Tin Pei Ling of Marine Parade GRC. Of course, the chance of winning will be higher if WP sends a higher profile candidate.

Who would have known that they would send a doctor who just joined the party 3 weeks ago? But a candidate of this caliber should have no problem learning all the issues commoners face in 3 weeks. 😂
Learning what commoners face is one thing. To emphatise with commoner is another thing. Though LLL not doctor, Think she not only know but understand what commoners face.

How soon some forget history when they elect to do so.
Dr Seet Ai Mee n Dr Ng Pock Too were both high fliers with more outstanding credentials than their SDP opponents when they both unseated in their respective SMCs.
To recover lost ground in d following election, PAP sent in MIWs who had even less stellar qualifications on paper than d SDP incumbents but who were nonetheless proven men with their noses close to d ground. They won.
IIRC, Ang Mong Seng n Ong Ah Heng never contributed anything of great significance in parliament.
d best candidate for an election is not necessary d wan with d more stellar credentials or academic qualifications, but d wan who can win d voters' confidence.
I agree with the highlighted but I think its more like PAP sent in MIWs to protect their high fliers. For all his credentials, MBT failed in Potong Pasir in 1984 so had to be part of Tampines GRC to get into parliament in 1991. From that point on, PAP did not want to risk their big guns in single wards in general election or by-election, and GRCs were used to bring in people whom the PAP wants to protect or feels has ministerial potential. Obviously with the lost of Aljunied GRC we may now see a drastic change in the political landscape again come next GE.

They're so fast? This time ahead of the PAP? Wonder what they have up their sleeves...PAP supporters quite fixed in their mindsets..will be a tough one to rock.

They are going to talk about Town Council issue.

Just as they introduce FT to make our lives better, we should also introdue some OP to make their jobs easier.
