Yes food in MS is definitely higher as compared to other schools, everything starts from $1 at least. Some of the stalls are also overcharging, for items like nuggets, they are more expensive than my office staff canteen based on what ds tells me.

Alamak, the famous roti prata at Upp Thomson is only 80 cents each! How can Nonya Manis sell it more expensive than famous eateries outside who need to pay high rents and labour charges?


And I suspect they are just frying up the frozen pratas.

My P1 boy bought a plate of white rice with an egg on his first day in school.

The stall charged him $1 which I felt was a bit expensive.

I packed recess food and sometimes also include lunch for my son. I think it is better this way because home make food is always better quality and more nutritious than canteen food. Just need to sacrifice about 15 minutes of sleep in the morning to prepare food from my heart. My son likes it as he does not have to queue and have enough time to play with his friends. Only problem is that sometimes he forgot to bring back the food container and sometimes he lost it for good.

Even if prices of raw ingredients increases, still doesn’t justify for $1 a prata. I think even a mid joint wing of $0.50 seems a bit steep for pri sch.

I agree, home cook / packed food is better, but I'm a little concern packing him lunch, esp on days when Sch finishes at 1.45pm. The food would hav been in the box in room temp for at least 7 hours.

$2 is definitely enough for recess for lower primary . Provided the boy does not buy drinks. There many water coolers all over the Sch.
My DS has a classmate whom receives $5 pocket money a day. So guess what ???? The boy eats the usual food $1-$2, buys a bottle of drink $1, buys a big pkt of potato chips $1.50 :yikes: :scared:
