Therefore, before giving away some cards to Jim, Andy had
261 / 3 * 5 = 435 cards
and Jim had 522 - 435 = 87 cards.

This is after Jim gave 4/7 of his cards to Andy.
Similarly, 1 - 4/7 = 3/7

Therefore, before giving away some cards to Andy, Jim had
87 / 3 * 7 = 203 cards

Hence, the final answer is as follows:

Jim had 203 cards at first while Andy had 522 - 203 = 319 cards at first.

Since 1 square is 16 x 16 = 256 cm square,
The total unshaded area is 1/2 x 256 + 1/2 x 3 x 256 = 2 x 256 = 512 cm square.

Thanks Tianzhu but i just need to understand why Wee Teck is given 3 units because the question says Robert paid 1/3 of the amount paid by Henry AND Wee Teck. By using 3 units to represent Wee Teck, we would be assuming that both Wee Teck and Henry paid equal amount which might mot be the case.

The direct method is to use fractions...

Eg. A has 2/3 as many marbles as B

A--> 2 units, B --> 3 units,
A --> 2/(2+3) = 2/5 total
B --> 3/(2+3) = 3/5 total

Robert paid 1/3 of the amount paid by Henry and Wee Teck
Robert --> 1/4 total

Henry and Robert paid 2/3 of the amount paid by Wee Teck.
Wee Teck --> 3/5 total

1 - 1/4 - 3/5 = 3/20
So, Henry --> 3/20 total

3/5 - 3/20 = 9/20
9/20 total --> $27
Total --> $60
