Even if it is for different components, 5 books are too many. Unless the tutor buys 5 books for HERSELF, and photocopies pages for her various students according to their needs or what she wants to teach.

There is no point buying five books and throwing them all to the kids. Anyone can do that.

Did your tutor show you the receipt?

No,she didn't. She showed me the price at the back of books. So I did calculation n paid her.

Maybe tell her that you have discount at popular so next time, she just need to let you know the titles and you can purchase directly?

When my kids had a CL tutor, she would ask me first. Sometimes I would offer to buy since I've popular card. For piano, they would ask us to buy but sometimes, it's just out of the way and I don't know what to get so I would ask them to buy. But it's not alot. 5 books does seem like alot though. I try to limit assessment books buying in recent years as there is only so much time for everything...

My tutor will always inform me first before buying. She has the popular card and will usually give me the receipt and I will pay her according to the receipt.

My CL tutor doesn’t have popular card…if she needs to get a title for kids, she will inform me and ask to borrow the popular card.

But I think I frequent popular more than her.

                Yes,5 books for 1 subject.She teaches P3 english.

That is totally ridiculous. Can she even teach?

Agree. 5 books are too many.[/quote]At P4 end, DS chinese tutor bought 5 assessment books in one go in Sept. I was so shocked because I know it is near year end and not possible to finish. But I don't want to blow the matter up so just paid up. For tuition, all she did was from the assessmentbooks, sometimes even forgetting to mark finished work. My DS ' grade did not improve either. I fired her.

Since then, both DS refused to have CL tutor.

                  Side track a bit...

I believe u've read some of my posts with regarding to my son current tutor.I've no choice but to put up with her coz i've not found a replacement.

I would like to seek some opinion fr u...

I find her a bit disorganized, papers everywhere.I've to organize everything, keep all the worksheets, books.I even summarized her notes(coz all scattered ard)n got her to revise wf my son.

I feel my son basic writing skills is not up to standard(the flow, sentence structure, grammar, tenses).I suggested her to work on the basic first(she did, only on introduction). She kept getting my son to practise writing, but no structure to follow...To me,this is very \"reactive\".

I asked her if the teacher would penalize for wrong grammar used, she said the grammar not impt, impt is the content n flow.

She oso mentioned planning is not necessary(last time said muz plan),just straight away write based on Problem & Resolution. But i feel it is necessary(simple planning) since my son does not hv good logical thinking.

She has introduced quite a number of creative phrases(some r quite \"chim\" but i doubt my son knows how to apply it.

my DH commented if the \"basic\"writing is not there, how to be \"creative\"writing? 🤷

                    Hi Vinegar,

If I am you, I would have fired the teacher. How old is your son? My son is P6 this year and I regretted not paying more attention on his writing skills much earlier.

For compo writing in PSLE, total marks possible is 40. 20 for content and another 20 for language and organization. Planning is extremely important. Up until now, my son usually gets 32-33 for writing. No improvement even after I engaged English tutors. I know some kids can get 36-38 easily. It is not easy to find an English tutor that is good. Since Term 3 last year, I have tried 3 English tutors. The 1st one only corrected the grammar but did not teach how to improve the writing. The tutor did not teach how to plan and did not teach any structure :faint: although this tutor has a degree in English language and is currently teaching in a famous tuition centre. The 2nd tutor only asked my son to copy model compos :faint: although the tutor is highly recommended in KSP forum. The 3rd one just started recently so I have to wait and see.

So, my advice to you is find a suitable tutor ASAP. It takes time to find a suitable one. One tutor's teaching method may work on one child but not on another so it really takes time to find a suitable one.

                    Good luck!
