Tutor buys assessment book?

My kid’s tutor got us 17 chinese assessment books …initially I was shocked but I notice that my girl did those assessment on daily basis…last time I had a hard time her to complete even 1 chapter of an assessment books. …and some of the assessments drills on different section…I need my girl to practise more on her Chinese…as she has weak foundation in that language…

I would like to seek some opinion fr u...
I find her a bit disorganized, papers everywhere.I've to organize everything, keep all the worksheets,books.I even summarized her notes(coz all scattered ard)n got her to revise wf my son. :roll:
I feel my son basic writing skills is not up to standard(the flow,sentence structure,grammar,tenses).I suggested her to work on the basic first(she did,only on introduction).She kept getting my son to practise writing,but no structure to follow...To me,this is very \"reactive\". :roll:
I asked her if the teacher would penalize for wrong grammar used,she said the grammar not impt,impt is the content n flow.
She oso mentioned planning is not necessary(last time said muz plan),just straight away write based on Problem & Resolution.But i feel it is necessary(simple planning) since my son does not hv good logical thinking.
She has introduced quite a number of creative phrases(some r quite \"chim\" but i doubt my son knows how to apply it.
my DH commented if the \"basic\"writing is not there,how to be \"creative\"writing?

17?? that r a lot....did she asked u b4 buying??
i bot a lot of books for my kid too...he is P3,i even hv bot P3 or some compo guide books which can be used up to PSLE -

I think you should drop her asap and put the time and money elsewhere. Even if it is watching Ironman 3, the rewards will be greater. At least your son and you will have a good bonding time. (maybe you can bribe him to do an essay for you the way you want in return.)

You can either source for alternative, or you can ask your son if he wants to work with you (I think you know what you want and what needs to be done - you're better than the tutor!!) and the money saved can be put towards other (nicer) things. Of course, he must agree to listen and not complain for the two hours with you. Just a suggestion.

I agree with ammonite. I would have sacked this tutor long, long ago. If you can 'change hats' for an hour at a time and coach your son yourself, that may be an idea. THe benefit of the DIY approach is that you don't need to do a full hour - for my kids, once they get it, we stop. If not, a group situation may be better?

with the change of exam format, there are several new components for chinese which my daughter has problems in…for eg the oe section in comprehension which requires her to find the 词语 from passage, find key points and fill in the box and last question that needs to explain in her own words. son only faced this type of format in p4 or 5. i wonder if it is the school or MOE’s idea to introduce at P3.

No..she didn't but she said I can choose not to take those which I dont want. I took all instead since some are focusing on different areas. I also notice that she will go back to the previous chapters weekly..using different books, in a way, it helps my daughter to recap, otherwise she will not revise on her own.bebe:

My hubby bought 8 Maths assessment books for my other daughter as we realise that she needs different exposures for different topics. Certain books are good at challenging questions, some are good at concept training. I had also abt 8 books for Science alone.I guess so long as the usage are effective, the quantity does not matter. -
