      A wooden box with 17 pears in it has a mass of 3.38kg. When 7 more Pears and 81 guavas are added the mass becomes 9.5 kg. Each pear has a mass 3 times as much as each guava. Find the mass of the wooden box when it is empty in grams

      3 guavas --> 1 pear
      81 guavas --> 27 pears

      7 pears + 81 guavas
      --> 7 pears + 27 pears = 34 pears

      34 pears --> 9.5 kg - 3.38 kg = 6.12 kg
      17 pears --> 3.06 kg

      mass of empty wooden box --> 3.38 kg - 3.06 kg = 0.32 kg = 320 g

      cheers.

        3 ducks cost as much as 4 chickens. Sam bought 5 ducks and 6 chickens for $76. What was the cost of 1 chicken? :?

        one \"universal\" method is to use units
        Find the LCM of 3 & 4 --> 12

        3 ducks --> 12 units, 1 duck --> 4 units
        4 chickens --> 12 units, 1 chicken --> 3 units

        5 ducks + 6 chickens --> 20 units + 18 units = 38 units
        38 units --> $ 76
        1 unit --> $2

        1 duck --> $8
        1 chicken --> $6

        cheers.

          I also need help on this.

          Question:

          The sum of 12 numbers is 5289. If each of the 12 numbers is increased by 6 and the new numbers are all added up, what is the new sum of the 12 numbers?

          Total increase --> 12 x 6 = 72
          New sum = 5289 + 72 = 5361

          cheers.

          :thankyou: :salute:

            Hi, I need help for the following question:

            Alice, Betsy and Doris shared a sum of money. Alice had 1/3 of the total amount of what Betsy and Doris had. Betsy had 5/12 of the sum of money. Betsy had $30 more than Alice.

            (a) What fraction of the sum of money did Alice have?
            (Give your answer in the simplest form.)

            (b) How much money did the girls have altogether?

            Alice 's money=1/3 Betsy and Doris = 1/4 of total sum of money
            (Alice --> 1 part, Betsy and Doris --> 3 parts, total --> 4 parts)

            1-1/4 - 5/12 = 4/12 = 1/3
            Doris had 1/3 of the total sum of money

            5/12 (Betsy's money) - 3/12 (Alice's money) = 2/12 = 1/6

            1/6 of total sum of money --> $30
            Total sum of money --> $180

            cheers.

            :thankyou: :salute:
