    • RE: PSLE Maths 2017 paper

Regarding the ribbon question, the description isn't entirely clear on how the ribbons were used. Since the word \"tape\" appears in the question, it is not impossible to imagine that the ribbons were to be taped on walls in the party venue as decoration. If that's the case, 9 would be the correct answer! 🙂

In fact, I found some sticky ribbon tape in Daiso:

Hi, the school mentioned that the slides from the PTC will be available online at end of this week. I managed to login to mconline but couldn’t find the slides. Does anyone know if the slides have been uploaded? Where should I click?

    • RE: IP SCHOOLS DSA (ACADEMIC) - AT A GLANCE

Does anyone have the rejection rates for the various DSA categories for IP schools? eg DHS has 5 categories:

      http://m.dhs.sg/dsadomain.html

My sense is that since many more schools are now offering DSA, with most reserving 50% of their places for DSA, it is perhaps less competitive than before?

It will be good if parents get an idea of the success rates, so we can allocate our resources (eg not going for DSA and focus on PSLE) and better manage our own expectations. 🙂

My daughter is also in P3 next year. Her teacher says there’s no more "best" class, unlike in P5-6. (I believe 6I and 6J are the "best" classes next year.)

    • RE: Ministerial Salary Review

More relevant to KSP forum: The number of students per class now is 40, which is still the same as 30 years ago.

I thought someone said a long time ago that the standard class size will be reduced? They hired more teachers, but where did they go?

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

My Myanmar maid has just renewed her passport.

      Here's my experience:

      (1) The Myanmar embassy is located at: 15, ST. Martin's Drive, Singapore 257996.

      (2) There's no point calling them, as they are perpetually busy (true!) and they officially discourage their citizens from working as maids: http://www.mesingapore.org.sg/consular_services.htm#maid

      (3) Do NOT go to the embassy at night. Their procedures have changed.

      (4) Three trips are needed. Your maid will be informed of when she needs to be back at the embassy. Documents to bring: her work permit and current passport.

      (5) For the first and second trips, arrive at 8am in the morning to queue up. Seats are provided in a sheltered open area. I also saw a water dispenser and some reading material. You may drop off your maid there and pick her up when she's done.

      (6) Waiting time. It took my maid half a day for the 1st trip, and almost a full day for the 2nd. The 3rd trip, which is for collection of the new passport, is very short - about 10 mins for us.

      (7) Taxes and fees. Fees for renewal of passport is S$150. In addition, they levy a tax at a flat rate of S$25 per month for every month she has worked here. So if your maid has previously worked for 24 months, the tax is S$600. There's no need to provide documentary proof of the duration of work (i.e. no need to bring employment contract), because it's obvious they can tell from the dates stamped in the old passport. To save on taxes, I heard that a strategy is to renew the passport earlier than later.

Hope this helps some KSP members!

      CMF:
      Hi

My Myanmar maid renewed her passport in March 2010. Am not sure if the system has changed since, but here's what we did.

      (1) Went the night before (pref to go mid week, so not so crowded) at around 9pm. There's a Q-list placed in the first letter box outside the main gate. She wrote her name and passport number on the list (she was abt number 15). This list will be used the next day by the Embassy staff as the sequence for attending to each person.

      (2) Dropped her off by herself at around 7am the next day. She packed water and sandwiches for her lunch.

      (3) Made photocopies of her passport, work permit card, employment contract (which states monthly salary) and passport photos.

      (4) She brought along 400+ dlrs. Passport fee + tax (10 percent of two years annual salary) works out quite expensive.

      (5) After she paid her tax there, and showed the receipt, she could renew her passport.

Note : Ensure that tax payment receipt is kept properly cos understand hv to show at Myanmar airport when she returns home later.

      (6) She completed the whole process around 3pm + on the same day.

Note : There is no need for the employer to be present.

      Hope above helps!

      vlim:
I think we should not compare with gep holding schools where most of their top scorers are geppers ...

Oh yes, I wasn't aware of that.

      Let me analyse again...

There are 9 GEP schools, namely:
      Anglo-Chinese School (Primary)\tBoys
      Catholic High School (Primary)*\tBoys
      Henry Park Primary School\tCo-ed
      Nan Hua Primary School*\tCo-ed
      Nanyang Primary School*\tCo-ed
      Raffles Girls' Primary School\tGirls
      Rosyth School\tCo-ed
      St Hilda's Primary School\tCo-ed
      Tao Nan School*\tCo-ed

That means we can still compare with Pei Hwa, Rulang and Kong Hwa.

From the percentages posted, it seems we are on par with Rulang and Kong Hwa, but Pei Hwa apparently produces at least 2x more students scoring > 250. What is Pei Hwa's secret?

      hi Lobang needed,

may refer to report from other schools:-
      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=29025&p=657581#p657581
I went to that thread. Seems MBS is not that great. If there were 330 pupils, only 13% scored above 250. Percentage-wise, NYPS / RGPS / Nan Hua has >3x more than MBS! Not good.

      ==

      score > 250:-

      Nanyang ~ 45%
      RGPS - 41.3%

      Nan Hua ~ 40%
      Pei Hwa ~ 40% or 26% ?

      TaoNan - 32.4 %

      Rulang ~ 16%
      Kong Hwa ~ 16%

      Maha Bodhi - 43 pupils
