What kind? You should chat with my DH here. His nick is sashimi. He loves model kits too and I think if finances and environment allow for it, he'd get an airbrush. (However, I think he has also been perfecting his skill of using the spray can to achieve the airbrush effect.)

Erm... pardon me for my ignorance... wat is DH???

Anyway... it is worth investing in a good airbrush and compressor set... I am still using my 14 years old set....
