    • RE: Tien Hsia - Discussion

Any reason to switch? My boy’s peers did very well under berries while mine experienced a switch from TH to WLC. Mine shared that both teachings are similar but lots of writing in WLC. He couldn’t tell me the reason why he chose WLC over TH even although he disliked the writing part and often couldn’t finish his work on time for quite a long period of time after he joined. My observation was the teachers were more passionate in teaching. And the only advantage in WLC is that it is Sec levels classes, thus his peers in berries will have to source for new place for tuition after P6.

Mine was supposed to continue WLC but I didn’t let him because the centres are all not near us, plus limited class timings for sec levels. We struggled in going to the centre for past few years. 😥

I am now looking at sec classes in Beijing and HCL or any good centres but no feedback on them. 😭

    • RE: Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Secondary)

I need advice on Sec 1 Chinese tuition Centres for DS on the following:

Beijing Language sch - only has HCL class, but it is closer to my residence.
Wang Learning - DS is used to its pri lessons but very far from my residence.
HCL - know little about this centre but slightly closer to my residence.
I am looking at a centre with lessons which cover all components for sec1 CL and DS would enjoy.

Thanks annelee! I will go check it out.

My boy’s sch also practices writing drafts… I visited a tuition centre recently, its creative writing class also do drafts so it may take two lessons to finish the compo. I am unsure if it is a norm, his currently tuition centre didn’t do that though…

      hi annalee,

Can share a little more on what you know about TWC?
Any idea about the teachers and do you think the English tuition class is sufficient to cover compo writing?
I am sourcing for English classes as the current one is far and I am unable to send/fetch my boy w/o my hubby and he is going to change work schedule soon…
I am considering TWC but yet to visit the centre as I prefer their time slots to TAS.

I had never done so at such young age. But I do prep a poem (chosen by my boy) for end of term. This was to built up his confidence. He dislikes Chinese but I saw a leap improvement when he was K2 with TH. Btw, he is now 10yo.

    • RE: Comparing Chinese Enrichment (Primary/Preschool)

Hi, anyone has kid with Xue Hui Le (Pri)? Can share if it is good? There are few new centres offering classes recently but yet to achieve sufficient intake to start the class. The admin don’t seems to know much about the lesson and can’t show me any materials. Reason being the centre has yet has the class before and the level I enquired was using new syllabus. I would like to know if the structure of lesson good and how is the compo component? Any ideas how are the teachers?

      Hi parents,

Any good centre for science lesson to recommend for p3? Prefers it to be around hougang/sengkang/punggol areas.
I saw smartlab & true learning. Any reviews on thee two centres?

Hi, I happen to read your post. My children have been attending classes in true learning centre since P6 and Sec 4. The younger one is currently in the sec 3ip math while the older one has already graduated from JC last year. While in primary school, my younger one had enjoyed the science lessons and had done well in PSLE. As true learning only offers math for secondary levels, she could only join the secondary math class. Overall, I am very happy with the centre as I could see the gradual improvement in their grades since the time they joined the centre. According to my children, many of their classmates have been with the centre for many years. As you live in hougang/sengkang/punggol area, you can consider their Kovan branch or Novena branch. My children are from their Jurong branch.
      Hope the sharing helps.

      Thanks Jenn for the info.
I hope kovan branch will be as good as Jurong branch.
I have more questions: is there hands on experiment and home work to completed?
Do we parents need to revise with their children after each lesson? Can you also share the class fees?

Thank you Sembgal for your sharing.

My ds has been pestering me to stop TH class as he find it too tough especially for the tingxie. He was not able to complete the end of term test. It seriously made me wonder if TH is suitable for ds.
I am continuing TH but is sourcing for teacher/ centre to coach ds on it. I tried on a home based teacher who scared me and ds. She does not has her set of teaching materials but she is so popular that her classes are full of students and she expects all kids to do many assessment books and write compo. We are stressed out by her as I find that we spent too much time on this subject that we neglect others. On the other hand, I am wondering if we are too lagged behind the real expectations on the subject?
Anyone can advise me if I should stick to TH or give berries a try? I hope some kind souls can recommend me a teacher to aid my ds too…
