      Hi
My DD is very interested in applying DSA through sport. Will average academic result means no chance to be selected?
you can PM me for more details, my gal got into RGS softball DSA last year. RGS looks a lot at leadership profile (in my opinion).

      If u apply \"IP only\", school won't offer your child \"O level\",
      since

you already specified outfront so clearly to the DSA school that
u only want IP, and nothing else.

      Hence, choose \"No preference\" instead,
      if u still
want them to consider your kid for O-level, should he (she) not be successful for IP DSA.

      \"No Preference\"
      means that

you leave the final decision making outcome to the school's authority, to decide where exactly to put your kid, in a better fit : is it IP or O-level
      Thank you so much!

      Dsa School has this option:

      - O level
      - IP
      -No preference

If we apply - IP only…
If school doesn’t think he is fit for IP, would they consider him for O level and counter offer or reject straight?

      Please advise
      Thanks

You submit your school choices in order of preference.

E.g., your first choice is the WL school and second choice is CO.

If WL is converted to CO (you will receive the outcome on PSLE results day), then you will go to first choice school. If WL is not converted, then you will go to second choice school.

Sorry please educate me on CO/WL

If a child is given CO to second choice school and a WL to first choice school,

How do we strategize to get WL converted to CO?

Correct me if I am wrong :

If we take CO means we will give up WL for first choice school

If we take WL, and WL did not convert to CO, does it mean we will lose the initial CO (second choice school)?

      Thanks

Thanks so much for sharing Doodbug.

That's good that your DD managed to get into her dream school with her own abilities 🙂

What I wanted to know is that , are kids struggling hard in IP schools after they have DSAed (sports) into these schools (esp when they score is below the cut off for these IP schools) or they are able to cope well with peers in the same environment,

Should we aim high on these schools when offer is given or should we pick a mid tier school to play safe. hmm
eg, AL 12, will kids struggle in IP school if gotten a CO.

Maybe it is more difficult for parents / kids to share about DSA \"failures\", but okay, here's my DD's experience.

Applied for DSA at three schools - was not successful at any. Did not get CO or WL offer.
      Profile:
      - Primary School Team Captain
      - Zonal Competition, 2nd; did not win anything in the Nationals
      - P5 Edusave Scholarship, i.e. top 10% of Pri School
      - No club, no SNAG participation
      - Prefect, the little New South Wales competition certificates here and there
      - Eventual PSLE results qualified her to enter two out of the three schools she tried to DSA to.
She entered her Sec Sch eventually through S1.

I think what he shared is similarly applicable to sports.

      You will need:
      Talent. Obviously.
      Interest. Ditto.
Portfolio. Similar, but a sportsman 'portfolio' would be the number of competitions / placings / medals.
Art school. For sports, that would be 'club'. However, not all sports would have an external club to join.
Participate & be recognized. As per above.
      Be articulate. Self explanatory.
      Find a \"hero.\" A sporting 'idol'.
Academic performance counts. Should be equally comfortable in his / her studies.
Know the school. Preferably understand how the school had performed in previous competitions.
Know your child. Understand your best position (for some sports), strengths and weaknesses.

Any sports DSA parents to share their views too? Really appreciate the post by Mr Clumsy👍

Any link on Sports DSA where kids enter at a much lower cut off points and how they managed to survive in the school.
