• RE: CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' Secondary

Hi, My DD already posted in an IP sch, but today she got a call from SNGS to do interview tomorrow…

How many students got promoted to IP track at the end of Sec 1 and what are the criterias?

TIA

I personally think it’s the smaller tiger cohort, assuming no change in the S1 intake. So more vacancies available to take in kids with +1/2 above last year COP.
And I think also the % of kids scoring AL 9 and below increased, considering IP COP remained the same.

Not sure if my analysis is right. So next year, likely will swing back. Just guessing. Lol!
Oh this is new info for me 😳 tiger batch is smaller… really?!
What are the odds for 🐲 year usually, is it larger 😅, better performance? 😬

If minus or lower means more demand for the school, more students put on their lists, that’s why their seats snatched up quickly and got full before higher AL students can be offered a place there so end up their COP lowered, or?

more students get lower AL this 🐯 year?

I am all for selecting a school based on good fit for the child and not a school with as low COP as the child qualified for. But I am playing devil advocate , to suggest a reason why there are parents who think top schools groom students better.

An analogy of schools group students by their academic learning abilities, be in by class or by streams (Exp/NA/NT). So that school can teach at a pace/contents scope suitable for each class/stream. If instead a class with mixture of fast and slow learners , some may find it bored others may find difficult to follow. Not optimised for best learning outcome.

So a 5 or 6 pointers joining the 3 girls’ school mentioned, are likely to be stretched by those schools. And some parents do want to stretch their child academically.

But still , not all good PSLE performers will auto translate to able handle intense environments. I know of a 263 who can’t take stress and opted for school outside the top 20.

And I know of parents with thinking it is going to be competitive working environment and the child may as well start getting use to it now in secondary school. I personally find it a narrow view and may give the child wrong life perspective. There are many cooperations/compromises too. We should instil balance values to our children.

Maybe can you tell us where did those balloted out AL 8 students eventually go to? Coz later a well groomed mum might come in and said why short change themselves go school with cop more than 8. Wasted.... Cxxxx SXXX groom their girls differently(For boys Vxxxxxxx, Cxxxxxxx, Sxx etc) ....cannot compare other non IP schools imo.
:rotflmao: “Well groomed mummies” made me laugh non stop

One example: My DD is AL8 and foreign nat
got balloted to her 2nd choice which is an IP school
**Her 1st choice is SNGS O level (COP this year is going up to 😎

We gave up SCGS after talking to one of their teacher during the open house, seems like she’s not impressed with AL8, foreigner some more, it’d be a losing battle, I assumed that’s what she explained to us 😆

My DD fight hard to be a PR/SC through her study here these 3 yrs, not many ppl can understand this but she really loves 🇸🇬

I think \"worth it\" or not is a very personal thing as each person's considerations / circumstances will be different. IMHO, choosing IP for IP sake, or under the impression that it's 'prestigious' will be a very silly thing to do :siam:

For me: accessibility / location, distance, school's culture / spirit, and general academic standing would be something that I would consider (in no particular order). As such, if I'm in your shoes, RVHS would probably not be among my choices - IP or otherwise. I'm sure you have thought about that before and have decided on your choices as it is 😂 Just stick with it and no need to think too much now :imanangel:
Thank you for your 2cents 😃👍

Let’s hope for the best for our children in their next endeavour 💪🇸🇬 may god bless them

My DD1 was added to the students' whatsapp group chat for the incoming Sec 1s. Times have changed. Kids have their own whatsapp group for the cohort. 😂 As a parent, I haven't even join any whatsapp group.
Oh wow! Which school is that? How do they get her phone number?

My DD has many primary school friends in RV, they are all warm and friendly and some are also quite quiet. Not to worry, I’m sure your DD will find her niche eventually. Meantime, be her most trusted supporter and listen to her daily tales of this new journey in sec sch.
Thank you for your great advice! Have a good one..

Congratulations! RV is a great school with great culture .. you’re in good hands. As first year is usually adapting and honeymoon year, do allow ur DD to explore freely and make new friends. If you like, add on tutoring later on, if required. For IP, it’s important for kids to learn to seek clarification and consult their Teachers with doubts and queries. All the best!!
Thank you for your warm welcome 🙏
My girl can be very quiet and shy, she’s from girl school, she’s a bit nervous now 😛
