Posted quite some time back to share my girl's piano teacher. We have been with her for more than 3 years (Ahhh, time passes too fast!)

      Anyone still needs contact?

Happy to share information since we feel that she is good with training my girl's technique/finger position while sustaining her interest. Comes to my house too, so it's more convenient.

Good to see more information sharing on this portal now... haven't been back in awhile on this portal!! :rahrah:
Can you share with me her contact? thanks!

    • RE: Living with Depression

Same here…a week before my menses - I get all those insomnia (can be frustrating) and anxiety. I check with my doc and he said I can up the dosage to 3 tablets per day. I did it before and it was okay. But was wondering if I can do away without xanax, thus I reduce to 50% recently.

I am also taking Omega oil daily. Will try to add prebiotics as suggested by ezmum. Thanks!!

there are days when I feel super lousy and they are not PMS. the feeling just sucks and I don't know what to do :frustrated: :stupid:

((hug)) I have the feeling that sometimes I experience mix of emotion - anger, guilt, loneliness at one go..like a hurricane..and when I am grounded, I feel empty, but yet a bit of anxious cos I dont know when the next wave will come again..after the medication, those episodes of hurricane reduce, but I know they will come again..

I didnt know cutting 50% is drastic. I did hyperventilate a few days ago, and I had to pop down the full table to calm myself down and go to sleep. I do know what was the trigger point..but I was surprised my emotion was totally out of control. I hv been switching back to 0.25mg since then, so that I can sleep better.

I also use essential oil to calm my mood.

I cut xanax from 0.25mg to 0.125mg for 1week plus…and I find my insomnia creeping back. Not sure if it is due to PMS, but the fatigue is wearing me out, esp during the day.

    • RE: Living with Depression

I am taking prozac and xanac currently. I am not sure if I am hooked…but I definitely feel more relaxed and definitely a happier mum. There are days when I will still be down and it is hard to survive - only can sleep and hope that things will be different when I wake up and open my eyes. I am heeding my psychiatrist advice to cut down xanax slowly. I think medication helps for pple like us to stay afloat while waiting for our mind to stabilise. I also try to take omega oil, limit alcohol and try to do more pleasurable things together with my loved ones. I think having a heart of gratitude reminds me not to take my own life easily. I make it a point to inform my loved ones where I go or what I do (if I am alone - cos sometimes I need space) to avoid them getting worried. And if I really cant take it, I just go to bed and sleep - try to keep myself safe.

    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

The blog below was by an adult learner who learned till G7 (I think) using the Hailun 125. Interesting read.

      http://piano-diary.blogspot.sg/2008/12/ ... 5.html?m=1

My guess about the meaning of the 'toning' comment from your ds' teacher is that it is related the dynamics of the sound. For acoustic pianos, hitting the keyboard hard and softly will produce different sound aka tone. For most digital pianos, they'll just produce different loudness of the same tone.

Thanks for explaining the \"toning\". I have also read the blogger experience with HL125, very remarkable for her to pick up piano amidst of working and taking care of young family at the same time. I am kinda motivated to learn piano top..I wanted to go Piano master to try out HL, but my boy had no patience to go piano shopping with me. We ended up getting Franz Sandner. My hubby likes its compact size which fits our tiny apartment. And he thinks that the 30years warranty plus guarantee buyback/trade in was attractive for beginners like us, and my piano teacher had assessed and also agreed that it is a good buy for beginner piano.

Just a question, which I forgot to clarify with the sales, if the piano is in aircon room most of the time in the day, eg 9m-9pm, do I still have to turn on the heater?

One of the more reputable MIC brands is Hailun. It has garnered good reviews in piano forums.

Since you're unsure if your boy will maintain his interest, another option is to get a digital piano. Reputable brands include Yamaha, Roland and Casio. They're relatively affordable ($1-2K can get oredi), take up less space and don't need tuning.

The downside of digital pianos is that their actions and dynamics tend to lose out to acoustic pianos. But a G1 student shouldn't notice the difference too much. Mabbe can get from a dealer who is willing to trade in digital pianos for acoustic ones should you decide to upgrade in future. Just a suggestion. 😄
He is currently using a digital piano at home, which is supposed to last him until Grade1, but his piano teacher felt that he has heavy fingers and not suitable for digital piano, she said it affects his toning. I dont understand what she meant, but I can see that he is able to play with nicer contoured fingers using his teacher grand piano vice versus the digital piano at home. Or maybe cos of his teacher's presence??

Thanks for suggesting HL, I will go and check it out. I came across this piano Franz Sandner SP210, selling at SGD3.7k, including 30 years guarantee from Cristofori. It is made in China but parts were from Germany. Not sure if it is a good buy.
