I am new to MOE system and unfamiliar with IP program. My son got into dunman high and i would like to know:
      1) upon completion of 4 years study , is he allowed to transfer to another IP school? If yes may i know how do i apply for it?
      2) what are the subjects to be taken during o levels
      3) during sec 3, is student allowed to choose all the subjects (geo , history, literature, physic , biology and chemistry) ? Cause during my times my school did not allow us to choose and i had to struggle with the subjects i didn like. It was kond of toturing to me.
4)the dismissal time for each day (except thur, 3rd language ends at 6.45pm)
      5) if students must take 8 examinable subjects during sec 1 , do they have to take 8 subjects during A Levels?
      6) does the school offer olevels if a student could not cope with IP.
      1) I believed that if you apply to an IP school, you are to be committed to the 6 year program. As they will not be taking O levels and will only be taking school-based exams, I don't think any other IP school will allow them to transfer.
However if they are not coping and eventually asked to take the O level exams, I guess they can apply to any JC using their O level results.
For students who do well, they will complete the 6 year program to do the A levels.

      2) IP students are not doing O levels, except for HCL/ CL. And if your child continue to do 3rd Lang, they are expected to do the O levels for their 3rd Lang.

      3) In Year 3, they are allowed a choice between the Humanities and Sciences. Schools are now quite flexible about the subject combinations.

      4) There's no standard time for dismissal. Different classes may have different late days depending on their timetable. Generally Fridays, they finish lessons earlier at 1+, followed by CCAs. So their last period could be anything between 1.20pm to 3.40pm or even later. They will share the timetable with parents.

      5) A levels - only 3 to 4 subjects at H2 level and 3 subjects at H1 level.

      6) Yes, if child cannot cope at end of Year 2, he will be asked to offer O levels. I believed at the end of Year 3, some may be asked too.

DD just got WL (snail mail) for DHS - Basketball. Can any parent share if they know what the chances for the conversion of WL to offer in DHS is like?
      High chance. 😄
This was shared with me by another parent in 2016 when DS had a WL from DHS. And yes, DS was offered a place in DHS when the PSLE results came out.

      slmkhoo:

We stayed at Estadia in June. There is no swimming pool, but I think there was a gym. I'm not sure the gym is suitable for kids, though (you don't mention how old yours are?) I think it's a fairly no-frills place in terms of facilities other than the rooms. The hotel rooms were comfortable and clean, and the location is convenient for the big shopping malls for food. We are not shoppers so I can't comment on the shopping.
Thank for sharing. My kids are 12 and below. They will prefer to stay in hotels with big fancy swimming pools.
      So Estadia is out. 😄

Thinking of driving up to Melaka this Dec hols with family. Besides 2 kids, my 80 year old mil will also be coming along.

Appreciate recommendations for good family hotels.
      Exploring the following:
      1) Mahkota Hotel - how’s the amenities in this hotel? Heard that service is not too good. Anyone stayed there recently?
      2) Estadia Hotel - city centre boutique hotel, are there any facilities such as swimming pool and gym for the kids?
      3) The Jetty Suites - saw on website that the service apartments are available for mid to short term stays. How’s the facilities and security?
      4) The Shore Residences - further away from City centre

Appreciate any comments if you have just visited Malacca. TIA

Hi, can anyone advise what books should P3 bring on their first day? And where should they assemble? Many thanks

I think it will be quite safe to bring 3A Math and 3A HCL and maybe the first unit of the Stellar worksheets.
As the first day is a Friday and usually there will be some settling in of the kids adjusting to a new class and a new form teacher, there will not be much lessons. Based on DS experience, the FT will then advise what else to bring the following week.

How come your DS is so good at info gathering?
My DS is super boh chiap. Didn't even remember that the posting of class is out on 10 Dec. We just check this morning. And he couldn't tell who is the top 3 in his class. He only know that he is not in top 3. :stupid:

Haha... cos most of his friends share all the information very openly and start calling each other after class allocation is out. Your DS is very good, very focussed. Actually, I will rather DS spend more time on his books than with his friends.

My DS definitely doesn't spend time on his books. He is just bo chiap about the competition out there. Prefer not to tell me less I nag him

      Oh My Gosh:

The mark is 35x for 4 subjects... didn't want to share the specific mark as it can be quite sensitive to all students. DS also know of 2 students of the same marks but one is in 5H and another 5I - I am guessing there are more than 1 students with the same cutoff mark, so they have to make a choice based on other factors.

Oh.. Didnt know that. So the top class is 5i?

Yes, 5i is the top class, but followed closely by 5H. DS knows of a kid in 5H which has just 1 mark less than another student in 5I.

      from the grapevine ... 😉
      top 3 classes for P5: 5i, 5H, 5G
      top 4 classes for P6: (with HCL) 6i, 6H, (without HCL) 6E, 6F

anybody can verify info for p6?[/quote]Just to check, I remember 2014 4A and 4I were the top mainstream classes. You mean all the good ones from 4A moved to 5I, H and G?
