janet88:yes, agree on both points. so i do feel non-affiliated schools promote and develop meritocracy.. which is supposed to be our country's bedrock...although RGPS doesn't have affiliation, the girls on the whole do well. even if they don't make it to IP schools, they can still make it to express stream. Marymount doesn't have affiliation. if it does, there may not be space in 2CS in my opinion.bruce_wayne:
If you look at RGPS' earlier phases, the take up was not as strong as MGS, SCGS, HPPS as it doesn't have affiliation. 114 spots were available at 2C for RGPS as a result. also, i am not sure if it is a result of non-affiliation but about 50% of RGPS students go to IP program generally. It is all at your own merits.

Then the first thing to do away is phase 2A1
2a1 is a bigger beast and a lot of moving piece to come together to form one system. Affiliation on the other hand is more manageable and MOE could step in easily to set the rule. it is. i also dont think there is true meritocracy. pri/sec affiliation score advantage has to be scraped. even if my kids are in affiliated schools, i will support it. there is also a divide with have and have nots. some schools only have private property around them and if you want to get in to those schools, you either buy or rent.bruce_wayne:
actually my concern is...notwithstanding parents' wishes to get their child into schools of their choices, we haven't given thought to the morale of the teachers and staff of those schools where in Phase 2C have loads of vacancies because nobody wants to go there. Even the best and motivated teachers in that \"unwanted\" school will despair after a while and that \"unwanted\" school stays \"unwanted\" for a long time
Our system is really quite sad
the new moe kindergarten affiliation to pri school is an interesting new twist but affiliation is not the way forward. -

Some applicants at Keming (Bukit Batok) - 46 applicants over the limit - are within 1km / 2km of BTPS as wellbruce_wayne:
BUKIT TIMAH PRIMARY SCHOOL
Excess applicants from HPPS, MGS, NYP, Pei Hwa, RGPS adds by to 107
Balance spots for 2CS for Bt Timah adds up to 107. Zhun Zhun
Some of them may prefer BTPS over the other options in P2Cs.

Yes I did! And we got a spot! We sat for two hours this afternoon at the school to watch the registration unfold and i'm even more convinced it's the right school for us. Such happy children everywhere. Thanks for all your help in the lead-up Zac's Mum. School registration is certainly an experience!! (and one I'm glad I don't have to repeat!)
:congrats: wise choice!
I hope you went for Opera Estate Primary as planned? If so, congrats! I think your kids will enjoy themselves there. It seems quite a holistic school.zac's mum:

I went to the school this morning and they were not giving the breakdown. However, I pushed a little and they said they \"may\" have balloting for PRs 1-2km but couldn't be sure (?!). I rang back at midday and it was a similar message, with slightly more registrations. But at 4pm when I rang, the lady on the phone said it was looking like balloting for SC >2kms. The message seemed to change depending on who you spoke to. It all seemed very imprecise and vague, which was frustrating. I'll be interested to see the actual breakdown when it's released. (We are PRs under 2km and decided not to risk our 2C choice and went for a safer choice instead.) -

SJIJ final breakdown, 51 seats
there were 2 couple within 1km in sjij yet didn’t withdraw.. what are they thinking??? Worth the risk sticking to acsp? There are 10 spot for them to fill.oh my tiger mommy:
4.31pm
ACSJ <1km 46 balloting for 41 seats
ACSP <1km 34 balloting for 32 seats
Nothing unexpected.
All the best for the balloting!
<1km 49 no balloting
1-2km 22 balloting for 2 seats
The 2, give hope to 22 and cause sleepless night for 32 and themselves ha.. hai... -

OCD:
sherrman will not be the only one. They're many more parents hitting to ACSP or ACSJ but do not come to KSP Forum for checking. So, no need to get too anxious coz they're lots others who'll be tipping the scale & not on yr radar to be hit.
parents who register on the first minute and the last minute has the same right. when you have too many people on the side, things can happen. Little do we know if there are any others who are on the side.
I know someone who got a place thru 2B at SJIJ but now becoz acsp left 1 seat at <1km, he wants to go down to see got chance to withdraw from sjij and reg at acsp.. really siao and bo liao.. zzzzz
It's common... he wants to take a gamble on his luck. If he really did it & lost ballot, where can he go for 2CS? :?
Bt Timah or Farrer Park primary Loh. If got appetite, go for it. Go big or go home. He power!
But at worst, withdraw sji 2b and apply sji 2c If within 1km, nothing should change. 4pm we will know
