    • RE: HMT Resources

      llbros545:
Does anybody know of any useful Higher Mother Tongue online resources for Sec 2s? For example, guides on solving certain types of comprehension question or dealing with the Summary and also composition guides too? Thank you for any help rendered!

Pardon me, but it seems like this is the wrong website to be asking for
such help (the word 'kiasu' is even in the address).
      The situation is either,
a)parents don't know of such resources and are therefore unable to help
or even comment on your question
      b) those who know most likely won't share them with you coz they
want their DD/DS to be the top, hence keep info to themselves (the
      definition of 'kiasu').

But if you don't listen and study the different styles, how will you know which you like? Often, it's a mixture. And that's how a child eventually develops his/her own style.

Sightreading is honed by frequent practise of new pieces. Best would be to be part of an orchestra that requires the child to frequently learn many new pieces.

The natural candidates would be those organizations

that already have secondary AND JC in place
eg. Methodists, Catholic & Anglican among others.

      i.e, we might see:

      MGS
      SJI, St. Nic’s, Catholic High
      St. Marg, St. Andrew’s
      Anderson

    • RE: Any parents here ever felt pressurized by others?

      Yup, precisely ...

commedian Hossan Leong expressed similar views recently ...

“Do they take the MRT? Do they take public transport? They don’t. They have no idea what’s going on. \"

I once had a casual conversation with an 'elite' scholar a little bit abt my work involving the post office
as dropoff points for office equipment repair. He snidely remarked when their printer spoils
they just buy new one. In my heart i was sad, that even tho he came from humble background, he'd become
out of touch with the common folks' lives ...

      insider:
      The 'elite' and the 'commoners'...

I always think our gahment is made up of too many 'elitists' and the future team will even be more so.

If mostly 'elitists', how can they really understand what is real 人间疾苦?How to formulate policies which can benefit the poorer meaningfully? How not to tell people 'if got no bread to eat, then eat cake?\" How to get out from the ivory towers to look at social problems seriously???

I ever once argued with a high ranking ministry people with some absurd policy that they implemented coz the policy is only nice on paper but not practical and literally told her that she needs to get out from her ivory tower and come to the floor to understand the problem before formulating not effective policy and of course, got a round of bombardment from her in return...

Some of those 闭门造车 people can really get into your nerves...

Study until high high also no use...

Exactly, bear in mind *many* of the top students are in thru-train/IP programs (RI/RGS/ACSI etc, just to name a few)

    • RE: Methodist Girls' School (Primary)

No details about oritentation for us either.

All we got so far was the notification for admission.

So pls don't have any notion of discrimination 🙂

      sumitra:
      Hi,

I am an old girl of MGS Pri and have a daughter going to P1 in 2010. We stay in Woodlands and am wondering how early the bus will come to pick her up. Is anybody staying in woodlands / Sembawang area?

I have not received any details about the orientation on 14 Nov 09. Since we are minority and non-Chirstians, I hope she will settle in confortably.

      Cheers!

      Tri-mum:
Hi, my gal got into St Margaret too. Er, anyone knows when is the orientation? I sort of missed out the annoucement by the principal because was busy sms 😉

No worries, a letter will be sent to home address with the orientation date.
It's actually another copy of the same registration form that was filled out, but with the bottom part signed by principal and some info added in.
