    • RE: Chinese Assessment Books

I haven't used that one before so I can't comment. For composition books, I can only use this one for my dd (P2) as her school does 3 pictures composition instead of 1 picture.

This is the only P2 book (I maybe wrong) which has 4 pictures and isn't too overwhelming for her.

My P2 girl has nothing but praises for the Just education distinction in maths assessment book. It served as a very good revision for her.

My P3 boy had story retelling last year when he was P2. It was on 5 little firefighters. 2 of his friends came over and we did the props, fire engine, water hose, the mountain,etc... and rehearse and they got the best score. It was also for the fun of it.

I think I'm a little out of touch with the system.... it's so competitive nowadays! I dunno what to do and I dunno what to say. 🙂

But at that point, though they have the best group performance with the props, coordination, etc... the kids in the other groups also came prepared with their props as well. Eg. some connected straws and treat that as a fire hose, etc.. some creative ideas.

Yes.... my 2 eldest kids are only 1 year apart and I observed that the assessment criteria is different for both of them. Eg. the P3 had story retelling, recitation, etc... but I thought it was good as it encourages them to be able to speak loudly and clearly infront of a group of people.

My youngest is going to P1 next year and I am sure there are more new things coming up. Though there is no exams??? but already heard of regular topical tests. So it does appear to be more stressful than previously.[/quote]I am so glad that they have changed the system to individual assessment for this retelling. I am totally against any group assessment as the children are not assessed individually, even though they may recite as a group. I am ok if they recite or retell the story as a group but marks are given individually.

Sorry if I may sound selfish but my child's marks in P1 was affected by this boy who can't stand still at all.

It is run by the same people who used to do Enopi.

For my dd’s class, they only started today and they are pairing up for this assessment. Is this the case for other classes too? I am pretty upset because everything is so last minute. I can’t even edit it as it is a teamwork.

Does anyone have any idea what is retelling stories? Will the school be preparing them on it?

2818 - it's the school's decision...perhaps you should pose the question to the school. the kids who are not involved in the opening ceremony would appreciate the super long weekend (since the following monday is youth day's school holiday). for those who are involved, it's going to be hard work this week for them and their parents who have to fetch them to school for rehearsals etc.

I thought for those who are not involved should also have fun for the day.

      Thank you.

Well, that's because ESM Goh Chok Tong will grace the occassion. *sigh* It's not nice to have school holidays cut short to 3 weeks only. :censored:
