Another question: It seems that the no. of RA students for each subject is really small! Fewer than about 20 per subject? Is that normal? Does that mean that it's really tough?

I guess it also means that not many people want to go for RA at the Jc stage because it's not really in the A lvl syllabus and requires you to do extra things. Really for those with passion!! RA students are all in the same class, so their class size would be small too. Most people pick H3 over RA at JC.

Interact in RI is no same as those other JC. Not trying to belittle others but the RI interact does a lot a lot more

They also work with many vwo

I know that both council and Interact will be too heavy a load. That's not my question. My questions are the \"what-ifs\":
      1. What if a student obediently doesn't try for Interact, then doesn't get into council - is there a way to apply later?
      2. What if a student doesn't declare that he wants to run for council, tries and gets into Interact, then says that he intends to stand for council and will withdraw from Interact if he gets elected - is there any penalty? (other than a guilty conscience)

The rationale is such that you are not allowed to join 2 service CCAs. It's not just interact and council, it's also CA, etc.
      1. No.
      2. The policy in interact is such that once you decide to campaign for council, you are out of the CCA, regardless of whether or not you are successful in the end. in a sense it's to provide fairness. If you already have the intention of running for council, it's best to sort your priorities out soon, because if you do quit interact halfway and run off, not only does it give a bad impression, it's also unfair to other people because you just took their cca spot.
What is this batch dance? Slow dance? Line dancing? If no need to be a pair and look at each other's eyes or touch each other then no need to worry. Otherwise :nailbite:

the common game is they eat apple together without hand .......

      šŸ˜“

iFireFly and slmkhoo, please let us know if it is still true this year.
it's not. the games do have a bit of 'contact', cos that's what makes it exciting and fun, but at most it's just tying legs together or smth like that! the dance is not too touchy either, you can watch the past few orientation batch dance videos on youtube. šŸ™‚

you are right! šŸ™‚ first two weeks are more of an admin period, and introduction to school rules & facilities etc, together with cca trials! although there are lectures scheduled, they usually cover some y4 revision, if not they will schedule a make up lecture for the JAE students later in the year. because classes don't come out until after JAE students come in, you are also free to change your subject combi a few times before the deadline. so you can actually attend lectures of different subjects to get a feel of which one you would like to choose in the end!

Thanks for info. Does this mean that the IP students will have a chance to attend lectures n try out subj combi unlike JAE students? So wont that be considered as a headstart?

hmm, i won't say it's a headstart, maybe a privilege? anw, the first week or 2 from when school officially starts, (aka after orientation when classes come out) the timetable will only consist of lectures and not tutorials, and everyone is allowed to change their combi during that period of time, maybe until mid year, then another time at the end of the year. so i guess other than changing classes, JAE students aren't at risk. im only speaking on behalf of RI btw! šŸ™‚

What sort of headstart are you thinking of? I think the JCs will not try to start the IP students' lessons sooner. My daughter tells me that she has heard from her seniors that the first 2 weeks is the \"nothing serious\" stuff, more to keep them in school and occupied (and out of their parents' hair). Academic stuff only begins after the JAE students come in. They won't even know their classes until after that.

On the other hand, it's true that the IP students will know a lot of ex-schoolmates, and that it will definitely be easier for them socially. I guess JCs with sec school affiliations will be like that too. I can only hope that the IP students will make a good effort to mingle with the JAE students once they come in. My daughter was just musing aloud about how to do that, so hopefully there will be others like her in those JCs.

that being said, most JAE students have no problems making friends based on my experience. as long as you keep an open mind, be friendly and nice, you shouldn't have problems making friends anywhere! plus many of us, although we are put together in a class with people we may know, we may not exactly BE friends, so it's kind of a new start with everyone!
11 jan 2016, what are they going to do? Ice breaking or proper lessons?

I'm very sure it won't be proper lessons! Probably some form of orientation? Anyway, I'm sure the girls (and boys) will know how to delay the start of proper lessons! As for uniforms, I expect that the girls should start with RGS uniforms at first. They won't have school badges yet, and I don't think they should wear the uniform without the badge.

proper lessons start after a few days of orientation

what is taught won't be repeated when the JAE students join

they can buy the uniform from bibibaba now and the badge from the on-campus Popular Bookshop
It'll be JIP period! šŸ™‚ One or 2 lectures here and there and briefings, CCA trials etc. The JIP timetable will be released nearer to JIP itself šŸ™‚ It's a good time for exploring the school because there will usually be large pockets of empty time.
Confused by the sch time table.

Tmrw is considered as odd or even week? Thanks.

According to my DD, should be even week.

      :thankyou:
DD also mentioned even but when I counted, I thot it was odd since next Mon is the 3rd wk.

Became more confused when we saw the eff date as 2nd Jan for odd and thot we could use that as a guide. But realised for even, it had the same eff date as well :?
Best to get her to ask! School started on a friday, but we would likely consider it to be week 0 (even week). So this week was week 1 (odd), then tomorrow is the start of week 2 (even week).

Any mainstream students joining Geppers classes? Will their learning/work load be different from the other classes?

There should be no difference as of past year experiences.

      Hi Y1 Parents,

For the upcoming Orientation camp, will you equipped your DD with sleeping bag? I know its optional, just want to know the thought of majority.

And also, do you think a normal haversack bag or a cabin luggage bag, more suitable for that?

      TIA!
Allowed to bring snacks? I thought not allowed to eat in class... I think sleeping bag is quite important if you are sleeping in class because it may get quite cold. I think either bags are fine though.

My guess is that it will be ready for use by late 2018, during the holidays, and the school would want to use that time to shift things over etc to minimize disruption. Hence you probably will be missing out. Also i don't think Mrs Poh is going to have too much say on the speed of construction...it's not just up to her on whether to delay the project.

But why so saddened by this one small fact? Your seniors don't get to use it either, and still have to fund raise for the campus they never get to use. And now we won't have a physical site to remember our school days anymore. There will be no memory of us there. If you want to talk about missing out opportunities... i assure you your seniors will have loads more stories to tell. No RGS 1:1, no RICE, FAM in hall rather than hotel, no new campus. We have survived pretty well without all that, and it may be actually a lot better than you think.

Some batches just have to sacrifice for a better future. That's what the school told us when we complained bitterly that our batch was missing out on too many things.

Why not just focus on settling into the school for now?

      Hiya Choco05,

I guess you're right. Our seniors probably had it a lot worse. I'm sorry for complaining when my batch already gets to experience some things that you guys didn't - I shouldn't complain at all. We're already a very lucky bunch. šŸ˜„

We'll focus on settling into the school for now. šŸ™‚ After you mentioned it, I realised that although we may not get to experience the new campus in its entirety, our batch is fortunate in the way that we get to immerse ourselves in the home that RGS has had since... 1959, I think? In all of the 50+ years that RGS Girls have been studying hard and playing hard in the current campus, a lot of laughter and happiness has been collected in the school halls, and I'm glad that, along with our seniors, we got to be in a campus that had collected that many fond memories. Plus... My batch and the seniors' batches got to spend the entirety of their four years here, and if you look at it another way, it's a priceless privilege. We got to stay in this campus for four years, we got to show it our love for four years, and even though we can always visit the new campus as alumni later, the new students will never be able to come back to the school and see it in all its vibrancy. To all of the 2015 Year 1s, you're the last batch who gets to experience that.

So that's what I realised when I read through Choco05's reply. It makes me feel a whole lot happier about the new campus. Thankiew, again, Choco05 - first you helped me to get my inspiration to come to RGS, and then you helped me to learn to love it, even before I started schooling there. You're one awesome person. ā¤

So yesh. I probably made all of your eyes sore but that's what I took away from this. 2015 Year 1s, I hope we have a great year ahead!

      Happy New Year's Eve! ^ ^

Now you sound more like the type of person i want as a junior šŸ™‚ Happy New Year to you (soon)!! Hope you have a great time on Friday and the rest of the year in RG šŸ™‚
