Hi parents, can anyone suggest a good assessment books/any online reference to check on my DD learning progress?

      Thanks in advance.
For English, I like the books by Casco. Especially their comprehension passages, many good phrases that my child can also use for compo.

I prefer online live lessons. Besides saving on travelling time, I can listen in on the lessons and understand better whether she really benefits. I don’t really mind paying the same fees as i feel online live lessons are just as effective.

But I agree with the part on writing compo. In a classroom setting, my girl is required to complete within the lesson. At home, she may take longer. So far, I try to make sure she complete within the same day so that I can email the work to her teacher.

How about all the subject Teachers, teaching this Sec 4 girl, besides her classmates ?

      Subject teachers’ results still pending...
Got wear mask, should be ok...

Actually hor, that day at a mall, saw a group of Sec students standing very close to one another. Definitely no safe distancing 🤷 🤷

TBF, SK Green and Fernvale are not that far apart - 1 road and a couple of blocks, so it’s meters that we are talking about. Yes, there are plenty of parents living in 40X and Greenwich / Seletar Hills who prefer SK Green rather than Fernvale, though I’ve yet to come across a good reason for doing so.

I think both schools (as well as Fern Green on the other side of SK Green) are your typical normal neighborhood schools - not perfect, but nothing wrong with them either. It really boils down to the individual whether he / she likes / dislikes the school.[/quote]
In the hot and humid Singapore weather, the metres do make a difference. Maybe it’s just me..haha...I know quite a few who choose Sengkang Green over Fernvale. These parents are staying like next to Fernvale, those in 40X blks or 41X blks.

I think for primary schools, convenient is more important. But this is just my personal opinion. I feel for primary, more important is the support given by parents. For Sengkang green, so far no complaints but nothing to shout about also. They have their fair share of good or not so good teachers. Matter of luck. I am not particularly impressed with their PSLE results either. But am
Glad it’s near to my place. Especially during this time, no need for public transport or school bus.

The last 20 to 30 mins, she will cover compo. And yes, students are required to write the entire compo and it is the first time that they are seeing the compo question. And yes, I also find it very rush but I feel it trains my girl to write fast. So far, I find that my girl teacher is engaging and I have no issue with her classroom management. The students are generally well behaved.

Actually hor, I have been listening to the online live tuition classes for my girl. For one subject, I realised she is not really benefiting and decided not to continue. For another subject, i see the value in attending. Even if I were to get hold of the notes, I also cannot deliver the lesson like the tutor. So, at least I don’t feel so pain when I pay the fees. I think this is one positive thing from the CB. Haha…

Sorry to digress but has anyone done a calculation of the tuition fees you paid since young to say JC level? Its even more costly than a 4-year local uni course? Returns on investment not really there leh. Heart pain leh. That's why I dont send my kids to tuition. Cos to me, w or without tuition, the end game is there. I dont think tuition will super boost my kids into president scholar or those overseas scholars calibre.
I have friends telling me not to waste money on enrichment. But I think they are lucky in that their kids are motivated learners and they have the time to guide. Parents guidance is also a form of enrichment. They really study the syllabus and guide as if they are the ones taking PSLE!
