@Hayleycc it seems like the Catholic baptism certificate will be sufficient to register in phase 2B

I’ve heard anecdotal evidence from a family member who has experience teaching at Canberra and Ahmad Ibrahim that the students are more engaged in school life at Ahmad Ibrahim. Hope this helps!
Hi all parents,
Which Sec Sch in the North has better discipline and general students' motivation is better?
I'm looking at Naval Base Sec, Ahmad Ibrahim, Canberra, Evergreen ?
Which school is better?
Kindly advise.
Thanks much. -
RE: Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

That sounds like a good idea. Most Catholic schools which accept girls don’t require balloting at Phase 2B, apart from the more popular schools such as CHIJ Toa Payoh and SNGS. These popular schools will typically only consider those living within 1km of the school. You can look up the balloting data for the past few years on sgschooling.com as well as the 2023 data on the MOE website.
Thank you everyone for your kind advice, perspectives and time! I learn so much from you all. I really appreciate it. After reading the comments, I'm starting to give up the idea of Kong Hwa for Phase 2C and kids having same school. The safest bet seem to be Maris Stella in this year's registration, and explore options for my younger daughter next time.
Our family is Catholic. For my daughter, perhaps I should consider some good Catholic schools so we can qualify under Phase 2B to be a bit \"safer\". Does distance matter in the balloting process for Phase 2B?
You might want to think about whether you would like to move to a different part of Singapore, or if you are content staying in your current place for the long haul. If you’re looking to stay put in the Geylang area, CHIJ Katong in Marine Parade might be one to consider. -

I said what I said earlier as I was unsure of your situation. However, in this case, I think it’s best to stick to Cedar since you went through all the hassle to appeal there and do all the paperwork. Orientation starts very soon and it’s best to firm up on 1 school to settle into so that she can get used to her new school environment and make friends there.
Hi everyone, I really appreciated all of your replies and advises here. I'm not good at words and am also a single mum here handling everything on my own. I felt helpless esp my girl also doest really knows what she wants. We both being indecisive.
She likes both sch, we weigh all the pro n cons too. Considering the factor being big fish in small pond. I'm kind of worried she will have difficulty making frens in affiliated sch n oso whether would it be better to choose between FSBB or main stream environment. The culture in Pl wouldn't be much problem to us she came frm an IJ sch.
I'm not sure if choosing cedar because we just wanna maximise her psle points or cause of its sch reputation.
I really felt terrible and useless as a mum.
I know there's no time to even contact the sch now n we probably have to head to cedar tmr with the transfer letter as Pl had endorsed the letter. Only possibility if Pl able to revoke it before we hand the letter to cedar if we were to change to our mind?
Nevertheless, I really appreciate everyone here sharing with me.
Given that Cedar readily offered her a place even though it was her 2nd choice, I’m sure the staff there must have felt that she would be a good fit for the school. She’ll be able to “shine” there too, not necessarily outshining all the other students but making the most of what the school has to offer and doing her best in all she chooses to do.
Choosing a school because of its reputation is perfectly normal, and I’m sure that’s the reason you considered PL too. Choosing a school with a cut-off point that meets her score is what most Singaporean parents would do anyway.
Normally, girls from other primary schools are able to settle into PL well. However, other PL-lites might find it odd that she chose PL over Cedar as most do not even have the choice. There might also be jealousy involved since she’s doing well academically. Ironically, she’ll probably be able to get along better with girls from PL pri at Cedar than in PL sec.
At this point, any decision is a good decision. The worst “decision” is indecision. -

JC affiliation isn’t as big of a deal as it can sometimes be made out to be. I personally didn’t go to my affiliated JC, and had only my CCA bonus points and no HMT. In fact, the JCs that people typically aim for in the northeast are NYJC and RJC, neither of which are affiliated to either PL or Cedar. ACJC is quite far away and easier to get into either way.
Since Principal of PLMGS already released your daughter, then go Cedar. Unless ...
the vacancy of your daughter is still intact inside PLMGS, not yet been released to any other appealing students yet, and u still want it back. Then, talk to P (PLMGS), to take your daughter back.
However, if supposing Principal (PLMGS) already given your daughter's vacancy to someone else, then Sorry : go to Cedar, then.
As long as General office Admin (PLMGS staff) have not submitted the Transfer form officially to MOE yet, because of the very busy year end December holiday, u can still go back to PLMGS. But once officially been processed by MOE, then No.
Is your daughter doing Higher Chinese ? If Yes, can go any school. But if No, then better to stick to PLMGS.
Why ?
Bec if u don't have Higher Chinese, then at the very most, can minus off only maximum 2 bonus points from your L1R5, for Cca points. But cannot minus away maximum 4 bonus points, if your daughter not doing Higher Chinese
unless ....
at end of Sec 1, your daughter does or perform well enough in her (Standard Chinese pu hua + other core Sec 1 subjects),
then
she is given a chance at the beginning of Sec 2 by the Chinese department, to pursue Higher Chinese, in the beginning of Sec 2.
Anyway, Cedar Girls is a good school. Your daughter will be in good hands. Not to worry -

From my experience, they are both good schools with their unique strengths. Which one does your daughter prefer? PLMGS has a strong emphasis on Christian values and the performing arts, while Cedar seems to be stronger in certain sports such as track and field and has a more racially diverse student population. Cedar wouldn’t necessarily be the better choice for a girl with a higher academic ability as PL has talent development programs, but especially with FSBB she’ll likely be among the top academic performers in class in PL and may feel under-challenged. It’s simply a matter of whether she prefers being a big fish in a small pond (PL) or being around more girls with similar or higher academic abilities (Cedar).
Yes, 1st choice n appeal to 2nd choice as this difficult decision happens during selecting of sch.
We personally like plmgss, the fact we didn't visit cedar before makes it harder to decide.
Location wise pl is definitely the most convenient to us n we r not looking into IP route.
By hearing advises here n thr that cedar would be a better choice makes me into dilemma.
I wanted the best for my dd but unsure if I've did the right decision.
Will she able to cope in cedar or rather given her score she will shine in Pl instead. I felt terrible n helpless.
One more day to sch with the transfer letter still on hand I can't help feeling mixed feelings still
Many years ago, I decided to continue my secondary education in PL with a relatively high PSLE score, while seeing many classmates move to Cedar and other brand-name schools. This was mainly because I lived within walking distance of PL and preferred a Christian school. I enjoyed my time in PL, being a part of the harp ensemble and the talent development program, did well in the O levels (L1R5
and went on to a good JC. There were only 6 girls from PL in my JC batch as compared to many more from Cedar and other well-known schools, which made it easier for them to settle in relationally. Nevertheless, I would say that the teaching I received in PL prepared me well for JC life and beyond.
I’m sure much has changed since with more schools like Cedar offering the IP, but I hope this helps with your decision-making. -

PLMGS G2 or N(A) COP has remained at 23 for the past 3 years since the AL system was introduced. So there’s no harm putting it as 1st choice as there is a good chance of her getting in.
Hi may I ask if any parents here have kids or know of anyone's kids who made it into PLMGS without affiliation and also not through DSA? I saw the cop for G2 is AL21-23 but I wonder how many seats are there for non affiliated students and if there is any balloting done for the last intake.
My gal scored AL22 and she wants to put PLMGS as her 1st choice but I don't want her to lose her chance of getting into her 2nd choice if she doesn't even stand a chance for 1st choice.
Appreciate if anyone can share more as I couldn't get any info from the staff when I called up the school to ask. Thank you!
Many girls have made it into PLMGS (Sec) without affiliation and DSA. Not completely sure about the specifics of the last intake but there are typically 2 classes of G2 students each cohort, which would mean about 80 girls. 20% of those places, or 16 places, are reserved for girls from other primary schools including those who enter through DSA. Historically, PLMGS has admitted a higher proportion of N(A) and N(T) girls from other primary schools than Express stream girls so there are probably more than 16 places for non-affiliated girls. Also, there would be less competition than a mixed school as only girls are eligible to apply.
All the best! I really hope you get a place in PLMGS as it has a great N(A)/G2 programme -

If all else equal, going to a school near home has its benefits. With less travel time, there will be more time for her to do what she likes, and possibly be more involved in school.
Dear all,
After studying some secondary schools in Bukit Panjang for the past 1 day, due to my dotter's result is AL20, i can only select the below:
1. Hillgrove Secondary (19) (thirty mins away)
2. Zhenghua Secondary (20) (Nearest to home)
3. Unity Secondary (20) (thirty mins away)
4. Chua Chu Kang (21) (twenty mins away)
5. Greenridge Secondary (22) (Nearest to home)
Can all the experts kindly advise what should I do please? I asked my dotter, she also not sure which school to select? -

No, 21 is the best score to be allowed to choose Group 2, so someone with AL21 who chooses Group 2 should get in to even the most competitive schools easily. Those with AL 14-20 can only choose Group 3.
Thanks and appreciated for your info
May I know as COP for NAS Group3 is AL 6 -13, Group 2 is 21.
Is that mean for those students with AL 14 -20 will have higher change to join Group 2 ?
Means AL21 will have less chance?
Thank you for your reply -

This was already the case for me before FSBB. Now they get to mingle a lot more, by sharing some of the same classes!
Do you know if N(A) and O Level pupils get to mingle a lot during school hours, e.g. recess, CCA time?
