When is the open house usually held?

Since the difference between affiliated COP and non-affiliated COP is so big, are these girls streamed into different classes from Sec 1? If those who entered with COP AL8 and better are in separate classes, how many classes are there? Do they use the same lesson materials/books as the other Express classes? Would appreciate any details. Thanks.
Total is 10 classes of 32 students each.
4 classes of IP, and 6 classes of express.

From this year sec 1 onwards there seems to have some changes. But if you refer to sec 1 booklist, maths textbook used is different for some classes. Can also compare ib vs express booklist.

From what I observed, those in non SBA classes, caught up and those in SBA switched to non SBA in sec 2. so it is evident that psle score is not cast in stone for many kids.

They have robotics lessons in sec 1 and coding in sec 2 for everyone.
Swimming as PE lessons for a term every year.

The website recently uploaded the briefing slides. Very informative. Check it out.

Open house shld be in Apr, May.

Each determination is on a case-by-case basis. If I were chairing the committee, there are two kinds of considerations: 1) if we admit A, we know for sure that A will take CL (in some form) during the IB years 5-6, and A will almost certainly score 7 points, which is good for A's results; 2) if we admit B, we know that B is an excellent student who does not have to take CL at all if she passes HCL at S4. This means that both A and B will do well, but B has more options for the IB, since passing HCL (which she certainly will) meets MOE requirements and she can then do ANY language she wants for IB second language.

Which student would I pick? I'd pick B if forced to, but if I could, I'd pick both. That's not to say that the current MGS team would do what I'd do, of course.

Yes, those results are taken into account. The main thing is that one of the subjects is a second language. In Year 5 and 6, the score for the second language (Group 2—Language Acquisition) is integral to the overall score, max 7 points.
If A taking CL get 85% vs B taking HCL get 80% but without HCL is above 85%?

      IB.
      Hi autolycus
In the assessment for IB intake in Sec 2 (from O level), is MT/HMT taken into consideration of the overall results?

If one with MT vs another with HMT, and one with HCL has overall of <80% vs excl HCL is 85%.

MT/HMT score is not critical across the different areas of year 5 and 6 of IB, though it is still compulsory in sec levels.

My child did badly for chinese and English orals for prelims. His problem is in confidence level and the more he look at the examiners the more scare he is and answers became distorted and not on point. How can I help him?
If Chinese is not his first language, can get him to read out loud the oral notes from school. Every day two topics. Read the Chinese compre passage and discuss together with family for better understanding.

For first language, ask him qns and be patient to guide him to speak up. Adults show interest to listen to him. Choose topics of his interest eg. Aeroplane or weapons.

Practice oral outdoor in open space, where he has to speak up to be heard. Not indoor in a room. Too quiet.

      All the best

      😢 😢 😢
Thanks for alerting me so I don’t wait in vain.

Will print out the non-girls schools for DS to look at after prelims. He needs a tangible hard copy to flip thru, make notes on, rank the potential 6 choices etc.[/quote]
Was clearing out P6 stuff and found the booklet. So instead of throwing away, could be helpful to pass down to other parents. The write up on the schools are still applicable, kids can update the ALs range from MOE sch finder as part of shortlisting. You may wish to do so, if there is any lobang.

For clarity, the reason I listed the data points in the following post was in response to the question of whether AL16 = t-score 200
      https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=92233&p=2074911#p2074911
      https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=92233&p=2074903#p2074903

As mentioned by floppy, I don't believe one can definitively tie AL and t-score together. Further, the school management can change the affiliate AL score if they deem fit.

But for reference, here is a list of some schools that I follow and their 2020 affiliated t-score COP / 2021-2022 affiliate AL Score:

      NYGH 250 / AL8
      CHS 240 / AL12
      SJI 238 / AL 12
      ACS(I) 235 / AL13
      SNGS 230 / AL14
      MSHS 226 / AL16
      MGS/SCGS 220 / AL17
      Various CHIJ 200 / AL20

MOE has equated ~250 / AL8 and 200 / AL20. I do believe a) there is evidence that AL16 is not close to t-score 200 as it relates to the % cohort (the original question/response), and b) it doesn't look like any schools made a big change in their relative standard between 2020 t-score affiliate COP and current affiliate AL Score. If anything, the corresponding AL scores are probably slightly easier to hit, assuming same cohort ability, paper difficulty, etc. That's neither good nor bad, probably just the way it is.

Anyways, a lot of this is in the past. If you are at a school with affiliation benefits, just try to hit the affiliate AL Score. If you are targeting any other school, just try to hit last year's COP for a chance to ballot or ideally AL X-1 to get in for sure (assuming scores across the cohort are stable). Good luck!
Yes, the translation involves overlapping ranges, and it's complex.

Just to add, I think 250 is better represented by AL9/10. Also don't forget Nygh used to have the HCL points, 250 can be 247+3 etc. Hearsay, a move to level up with or closer to match HCI.

252/3 is better represented by AL8, as the ard top 10% rightly pointed out by you earlier.

Agree that the % is now +/- depending on the shift to capture more or less students hover ard the border.

      Point to note.

It’s not wise and neither is it correct to co-relate affiliate t-score and affiliate AL score. The affiliate scores are determined by the school’s management and not by any fixed formula. Thus, a school who’s COP is t-score 220 may (and can) choose AL score 15, 16, or 18 as it’s COP as long as it deems fit.
It was to gauge roughly the percentage, using tscore. Does not mean that single tscore translate to a single AL. We all know it is a range.

MOE has fixed automatic qualify for HMT and Third Lang at AL8. Previously, these two floated at Top 10%, so I would conclude AL8 is around Top 10% (+/-).

      I think AL20 / 200 is more like Top 66% (% qualifying for Express), Top 50% around AL16 (Median subject score of 75 = AL4 x 4 = AL16).

Not sure on the gradient between these levels...
If top 10% to qualify for HCL is AL8, but cop of RV was AL9, hmmm

There was a top 30% as criteria for taking HCL? Can't remember exactly.

      AL8, 252, top 10%
      AL9-10, 250,
      AL11, 240, top 20%
      AL12-13, 235, top 25%
      AL13-14, 230, top 30%
      AL16, 220, top 50%
      AL20, 200, top 66%

      Just guessing lol
