tamarind:I spend a few hours with my kids every day after workand also during the weekends. I have a maid and my mother lives with me, so I don't have to worry about housework.
mummyoftwo:Hi mummy of two, do you recall when you daughters were in Glory, how often do they fall sick. I just want to check cos it can be real hot and stuff in the afternoon. My daughter was doing ok in P1 now, except for her Maths which needs a bit of guidance. I think they switch on the aircon if weather is hot. Also, she has two friends from the same kindergarten that goes to the same primary school, so she was happy about it (although they are not in the same class).LT:Dear Mummyoftwo,
Thanks for your feedback. I did go down to have a look and I am quite happy with the curriculum overview as I like the letterland program. Do you think they have prepare your daughter well for P1 ? I think its important to have a good foundation before P1. The only concern I had was that the classroom is quite small and it can be quite hot during the afternoon.
hquek:I totally agree with you that you should really look for another maid. Tell them rules (tamarind has good house rules) right from the day they report to work. Refresh with her every month the house rules for the first 3 month. Thereafter every six month. I am doing it now.huh? kiasupig, you sure it's a good idea to take one with 'unclean' hands back? I heard from friend that her maid stole money from the family - but they continued with her (cos she was a good cook). but seems like her habits didn't die.
Just be careful where you place your valuables. Good luck!
I really hate if they tell lies or if they steal. if trust is lost, how to continue the working relationship?
ctcc:What creative O is trying to do is to learn from play. This is the best way of learning for kids. They register in their mind for life. Beside this the way of rope for life. I like the concept whereby the teacher does not provide direct answer but allow the kids to be inquisitive and pose questions at any point of time. I think kids learn alot from questioning. They will learn to think out of the box.Juz 2 examples to share :-
True that they don’t focus on doing worksheet, spelling but they have their way of teaching and it really bring out chn confidence and make their enjoy learning.
I am staying in upper bukit timah and I don’t drive… so I am still working on the logistic part.
sumo22:My opinion is that you should go for Creative O because my best friend visited their premises to check out more after I share with her. from educational point, nothing to fault them. Very good learning style. Alot of field trips. Most of the K2 kids end up prefects & monitor in primary school. Alot of Leadership qualities. It is amazing how enjoyable these kids are. Best of all, you will laugh if I tell you this. They offer whole meal gardania bread for the kids. But the principle said that the fee will be increased by end of this year due to rental increased.Hi everyone,
My K1 son is at Fairfield Methodist Church Kindergarden now & I am switching him to full day at Creative O starting Jun 09. The reason is becos I notice the standard of Fairfield has declined (after some good teachers left & existing ones don't seem to be that motivated) & in addition, my son spend the rest of his days after school doing nothing at my in law place.
May I get any valuable opinion if this would be right move?
Thanks!!
Han Seo:I am an early childhood lecturer. I take my pre and inservice teachers to visit the centre as it has one of the best practices in early childhood education in Singapore. Their practices are very much in line with the principles of developmentally appropriate practice (DAP). The learning of academics is embedded in projects which is very much in line with how young children learn.
Dear Summer & Han Seo
Thank you for your reply. I am sure that this is the childcare that I want my K1 girl to attend. when I check the website, I am totally impressed (I know that I myself would love to attend. Ha ha!)
I should have know this Creative O earlier. I will be attending trial for Caterpillla Cove in two week time cos they called up few days ago informing me that they have places for my K1 & 24Mth. After I cfm the trial, I came to know more abt Creative O, I guess I need to visit them to find out myself. of course, in term of $$, I know that Creative O is definitely value for money.
2 concerns that I have
1. Logistic, we dont' drive, so I called the driver who advises that the pick up is at Toh Yi is 7.15/eta 8am. etd Creative at 4.55/Eta home at 5.10pm.
Sound so early for my girl who usually wake up at 8am. Though it is a matter of discipline, somehow I don't feel good abt it.
Caterpilla Cove is in Ngee Ann so I heard that it is within walking dist to TohYi, which seems very ideal for me (putting the cost aside)
2. I know that both CC & C'O emphasis more on project base, however, am wondering if e kids will be able to cope with P1 academic school work. Though this is not my main concern.
3. I have another 24 month old boy but not yet toilet train, Creative O advises me today that they no longer accept enrolment for kids below 3. All kids must be toilet train. So I am really stucked here :?:
Alternatively, I can send my K1 girl to Creative O or even Caterpilla Cove and then my son to the other Montessori CC that I have already committed two month ago. Sound like I am going to be very busy.
Wud be good to hear some advises. Thank you very much in advance
