      Hello Parents,

I have just called CMA today, they are offering free trial class for this month. Any interested parties can call them to finds out more. πŸ™‚

Hi, sent my 5year old for the trial recently and he did well enough. Sorry if this has been answered before and i missed it, but how useful is CMA exactly if the way things taught in Pri school are totally different from CMA? Not being negative, but I'm just worried that my boy will get confused in Pri school since presumably, the curriculum and the method of teaching then will be so much different.

      Hello Sar03,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I have ever asked myself this question too, I think it really depends on individuals. For me, I think for the long run as the lessons allows the children to exercise their brains, that's why I have decided to enroll my boy in when he is ready.

To whether if can be apply into Primary or Secondary school, I personally think it would help in some way, as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, is regularly involved.

Maybe you could ask your friends or neighbours if their children have been with CMA or other similar centres, get their feedback, then ask yourself if it will work for your kid.

      Best regards, Darkcoco πŸ˜‰

Huh .. i just paid for my trial class on 1st April ...

Does the free trial only apply to certain centre because i just called the one that my boy attended today and she says that it is $30 per lesson.

Anyway, would like to hear mummy feedback.

Brought my son to paid trial class today and i stayed thro out the 1.5hrs

      1) Is the norm for the teacher to walk in and out of the class 10 times
      - she even answered when a call came in
      - also typed something on the outside computer (and i heard a loud crash/bang in class - not sure if someone fell down or slipped off the chair??!

      2) Does anybody know norm how long will teacher teach the class?
Mine is about 15mins or so ..

      3) The teacher seems rather impatient and use words like - better hurry up do your work ... but when she spoke to parent (in No1) - she seemed so friendly and sincere ...

My whole experience at this Centre is totally negative!!!

Can any mummy recommend a better centre/teacher?

      Thank you.

      Hello Poo_power,

I am not sure if the trial only applies to some centres all all; maybe you check with them?
Between, may I know which centre did you went to? I have tried the Toa Payoh branch; not sure if the teacher go in and out of the class frequently as I leave my boy with the teacher.

I am disappointed that I have to come back for another trial 2 to 3 months later; as the teacher feedback that my boy is not able to concentrate to do his work after 10 mins. 😒

My kids are with CMA Toa Payoh. Daughter's been with them for 2 yrs plus and my son started beginning of the year. The group of teachers there are nice though they have had some changes for the foundation class.

I agree with pen88, why spend the money on \"how to write numbers\". Kids go to CMA to learn abacus, mental sums, not how to write. Though I can see the \"singing part\" as perhaps using songs to remember formulas? Not sure if that's what they're doing. Personally I don't think should send kids who are not ready for the classes.

      Hello Jce,

Thank you for sharing your experience. πŸ™‚

Agreed, I thought it would be good fro my boy to start excersing his brain as it will also help cope better in Maths (Except problem solving).

I will ask the centre if they have trial class, so I would give a sudden shock to my boy.

      Hello Parents,

Thank you all for sharing the news. But hope you would mind me sharing this; my son just joined Cherie Hearts in Temasek Poly for two months, so far he is happy and is learning well in school compared to the previous one (do not wish to mention).
I think it’s up to individuals to find out on the suituation and make decisions what they think is best, I won’t mind so long as the school’s internal problem will not affect the teachers, and children.

      Thank you.

      Hi all,

I just want to make comparison and comment that is this school is overcharged?
My kid is attending Montessori Pre-school. The school charges everything, nothing is free.
1)\tSchool charged $80 for kid concert held in auditorium includes 1 CD, buffet and transportation for all kids to auditorium
2)\tConcert costume at $50/- per kid. I can see some are ready made i.e.bought from M’sia. some are made to order. (all costumes are very common, my sis told me her son also wore the same costume before and my neighbour also told me his son school also have such costume during her kid concert in school and the costume price they paid to school only $20+
3)\tPhoto took during full dress rehearsal concert per pc sold at $2.50 5R size.
4)\tI also noted that their stationary etc bought from m’sia that ok but the
exercise book use is malay word written for name, subject, class on the cover page. Why they do this when this is a English and Chinese speaking
school with 99% Chinese kids. Kid need to recongise the english word not malay!!!
5)\tEnrichment class – speech and drama @ $250 per term (12 lessons) what I found and heard from other friends are -$200, $170 and one even
      only $120 per term.
6)\tSchool class photo taking plus Passport size - $50 per kid – one class group photo & portrait both in A4 cardboard stand. 1 pc portrait appox 5r
size and 4 pcs passport size photos. Developed with fuji print. What I found and heard from others kid in their school are – 1 pc group class in cardboard
stand $8 and another friend's kid, same 1 pc class group photo with stand
plus 4 pcs passport photos only $16/-. (my friend use it to make her kid
      passport)
7)\tNeed to contribute food or goodies for moon cake festival, x’mas, Chinese NY, Even for Children day.
Can anyone feedback what your child get in their school and prices paid for above or any other event.
I know nothing is free in this world but they really seem overcharged. Also upon graduate do you pay for taking graduate photo, rent the hat and
clothes? I heard this school needs to pay but I yet to find out. Also we do
pay for school excursion like to the farm, fishing etc at approx $25 each,
And about the photo my kid took, passport size photo taken but cannot be
use for Passport cos is blue back ground. When they said passport size isn’t
we straight away think is meant for doing passport? I questioned about it, but the principle argues that it said passport size it does not said for passport. I feel is really waste of money to do a passport size and cannot be use it for passport, Cos is total $50 for this package. Can anyone help how can I fight for my right?
Of course am thinking changing school too but not so soon cos no child care nearby. I just need general comment what you mother think.

      My boy ( now age 5) is attending carpe diem and also charge for lots of things for past 3 yrs;

      1. Annual graduation concert - $50 for costume, $25 per ticket, concert disc for $30 (optional)
      2. Photo taking - $35 for a 6r and 4r class photo
      3. Enrichment class conduct by external parties ranging from $180 to $990 if u take up all
      4. Excursion/ Outing - $25 min.

You have left out another πŸ˜‰
      5. Fresh milk orders or bring your own - estimated S$1 to S$1.5 per bottle.

Yes, I also agreed. That's why I have withdraw my son from the school.
After doing my calculations, it seems like I am paying for an upper class kindergatden school.
Are the enrichment classes really conduct by outside providers? :? I remember asking the teacher and to my understanding it is by the internal teachers instead.

While shopping for a new preschool for my son, I have found the following:

-Schools with built-in enrichment classes, fees: S$1280 to S$2000 (before subsidy)

-Other preschool with optional enrichment classes, school fees: S$750 to S$1200,
-Enrichment classes price range from S$70 to S$180 per term.

-Carpe Diem's enrichment classes price range from S$180 to S$250 per term. (TOO EXPENSIVE)

      Hello Mummies,

Need some advice, my son is K1 this year at Carpe Diem but last day is end of Feb'11.
I have visted MindChamps Preschool and now comparing with Cambridge or alternatives.

      Cambridge @ SengKang:
-I have called up, like the friendly and knowleagable principle,
-School fees is reasonable, but there is one big problem No School Bus Service from Tampines.😒

Total School fees + School Bus Service (if any) will add up to approximately S$800/ month.
On top of this; there will be additional enrichment classes for my son.
Therewith; total expenese for education is S$1000 to 1100/ month.

Otherwise I have to look for other alternatives:

      Option 1

-To find a childcare centre/ preschool with school fees (inclusive of subsidy) + school bus (if any) in total of not more than S$600.

-Add Speech & Drama enrichment S$120/ month.
      -Add FasTracKids S$170/ month.

Total for option 1 is S$900/ mth.

      Option 2

-Just sign up for MindChamps preschool for S$1000/ month (after subsidy).,
      But not enrichment classes.

I really like MindChamps as it's just walking distance from my home, but the schools fees are cut throat for me as I could not afford to have any additional enrichment programmes for my boy.

Hope you could give some sugguestions..
      :?: :?:

Thank you for the sharing your thoughts here. πŸ™‚
All of you are right, and it is kind of challenging to make decisions. I will need to make the decision by next week, as my boy's last day with his school is end of Feb'11. After settling down a few months, I will share with you the outcome. πŸ˜‰

With many thanks, and have a great weekend!

hi darkcoco, no experience to share with u as my gal is only 8 months old now. however, i have already asked myself abt the 2 options u posted and i am taking option 2 when she reaches pre-nursery level.

back to the original intend of this thread,

      DD - 8 months
infant care - $650 (aft subsidy)
gug - $190 (starting next month but will only be taking 1 term)
      shichida - $280

      Hello Mummylin69,

Thank you for sharing your plans for your baby too. πŸ™‚
Well, guess nowadays education for the children is unlike before, quality have improved and so as the $$$$. Hee..Hee..

I had just visited a centre today; as calculated the cost is about there, the difference is just S$100, I was just asking my colleague if a hundred dollars difference is worth going for a established school, or a normal school with some extra add on interesting actitives for my boy. She said, I do not have time for my boy during weekdays, suggest to go for MC the \"one-stop-shop\", hope I have made the right choice without regrets. As I just want to change his school once, as it is not healthy for the children to keep changing schools.

I hope my boss would give me increment, so I could just comment it without hesitance.

Still thinking, I am now left with a weeks time to decide. Hope soon there's an angel whispering some hints to me. πŸ™
