ChiefKiasu:dbotaks:Additional to the first question, my son is smart enough to know that router setting can be reset by pressing the hardware reset button normally available on any router hardware. I will have my new SingTel's Arcadyan 1900AC router in one week time so I need to know how to protect the access into it.
Are there any effective solutions to this problem? Any thoughts on the following possible solutions:
a. The router is locked in a cabinet. Problem is: its signal may not be strong enough for all rooms.
b. The router is connected to a managed switch while the switch is locked in a cabinet. Problem is: the switch cannot be managed via wireless (so that my son will know how to 'push' the parents to unlock the access)
c. The router is connected to some access point terminals (APs) while the router can be locked in a cabinet. Problem is: I don't know whether Arcadyan 1900AC router can be connected to APs.
I welcome any feedbacks. Thank you very much in advance.

Protecting the router physically sounds extreme. Have you thought about adding your son's Microsoft account as a child account, so when he logs in with his computer, you can set all kinds of restrictions, from type of apps and websites allowed, to the time he gets to spend on his computer. Of course, this works only on Windows computers. For mobile phones, give him an iPhone. It allows for much stronger family control mechanisms. Never give him an Android phone if you want to control his mobile usage behavior.
Hello ChiefKiasu,
thanks for your feedback.
I have two laptops used by two different sons: one is MacBook and one is Windows-based laptop. My intention is to limit the surfing/gaming time by a predefined timing and/or duration. I have no problem with Windows-based laptop as I can protect it very well and my protection does limit his (my 2nd son's) access to the laptop.
However, I have an issue with my 1st son with his MacBook. He is smart enough to know how to hack/reset the admin account or is able to create a second admin account. My knowledge of Apple OS is not good enough to overcome this issue. I cannot change his MacBook as it is used as a learning device at his school. So, many times I have no control over his behavior to access internet beyond our family's internet timing rule and his behavior attracts my 2nd son to be with him playing internet-based game. In general, they do not access adult websites (at least as far as I know using several kinds of monitoring methods), but their gaming addiction is out of control. It left me with the choice to have protection on router level.
For mobile phone, I take your advice seriously. Thank you for this feedback. In case you have some hints on how to protect MacBook, I welcome any thoughts. Thank you again.
