      Hi

Anyone can share how do you teach child hidden social rules, social appropriateness when in public. Our children could be self directed and insisted on doing their ways. They might not think what they did are not appropriate or wrong. How do we educate or let them be aware.
      Hi Snow24,

I have chanced upon very good videos that teach social skills. Do check it out.

      Hi,

We are using DSA scouts to enter Dunman High and would like to check the CCA schedule so that I can enrol him into tuition class. When is a good time for tuition for Dunman High students? Which 2 subjects in your opinion needed tuition for most students? I guess Chinese is one.

Hope to get some advice here. Thanks

      Regards

      Hi all,

      Thanks for the excellent ideas.

      Chief Kiasu,
do you know of any in the east? SPCA is a bit too far for us. Thanks.

      Armadilloshield,
Pokemon is great but will not achieve my objective of cultivating empathy for others. I tried once with my Son in a mid autumn festival event, he ended up being the most selfish person in our family that night. Ha…

      Sursum,
May I know whether they have it during Nov and Dec? Is there a website to check? Thanks

      sleepy,
my child will love NLB cause he loves books and aircon. Thanks.

      Cheers

      Hi mummies,

Have you line up any programmes for your child after PSLE? I would like to use this time to expose him to works of charity as much as possible as I will be back to work in Jan. Is there anyone here who knows of any volunteer work that suits parent and child?

I have research and only found 2:
      1) https://foodheart.org
      2) http://www.willinghearts.org.sg

If I do not keep him occupied, I foresee he will be wasting his time away with playing game at home.

Hope to hear from mummies here : )

    • RE: The Write Connection - Discussion

      Hi Mama123,

I went to The Alternative Story at Parkway Centre and was not impressed with their setup. It is the usual counter with no one to man the booth. I do admit they have excellent books and I myself have bought them all ; )

What I like about The Write Connection is the detail comment on your child’s writing. Other than the usual marking like other centres, the teacher will give a report on what could be done better for certain sentences.

On top of that, it was very structured and it has a theme every week for the child to work on. They will cover comprehension and new vocab words as well. If my child gets in, I guess I have to teach her grammar on my own. Though I am not up to standard, but there are plenty of good assessment books that I can rely on.

Sound like I am selling The Write Connection…I guess it is important to give credit for a good job done.

      Cheers

    • RE: The Write Connection - Discussion

      Hi,

I probably can comment on TLL as my elder son (12) has gone through its program for past 3 years. TLL Compo writing in their English program was of a top notch quality. They provided him with intensive training with lots of reference materials to improve on his Compo. This also meant lots of homework given by TLL due to that. But it really paid off, I can see the vast improvement on his writing skill.

But ever since TLL was sold to another company and expanded aggressively, they revamped it and reduced the work assigned to the children. My younger girl (9) currently in TLL did not get what the Brother used to get. Therefore practice or homework was little or none at times, and given the high fee that I am paying, it is not worth anymore.

This is the reason why I have started to source for a good Compo writing program to fill the gap that TLL has created. I will withdraw her from TLL once I get a slot in The Write Connection.

Hope this helps you to decide better.

      All the best
