      Hurray to alumni!

Others want it so badly that they want to get rid of it. But too bad they can't join even if they want to.

They are looking at other pp's lollipop and want it for themselves. They can cry unfair like a kid but too bad, that's the way it is. Not yours means not yours. Look somewhere else.

You have every right to think this way. However, as can seen from this forum, there are vastly differing view in this forum.

An polite discourse would be to agree to disagree and not to thumb down other's views or worst still brand them as gibberish or moronic.
How about \"bigheaded gibberish spouting green eyed monster\"?

All these discussion about the various phases can be rendered meaningless if MOE set out to ensure that \"all schools are good schools\". Don't just say it like a marketing tag line but seriously just do it. Go ahead and give the best/most resources to unpopular schools and make them the next NYPS. Refining the admission scheme is only masking the problem that our primary schools are not created equal. And to me, that's a more pressing problem that the various incarnations of the admission scheme that we can come out with.

Let's look at the issue again. Why is pple displeased with the alumni priority? it is bcoz the alumni who stay far away are taking up places and deprive those staying next to the school of a place.

If I read how attached the alumni are to their alma mater as presented in some of the posts, \"All school are good schools\" is NOT going to help the situation in anyway bcoz the affectionate alumni will still vie for places in their alma mater and the one staying next to a school may still be deprived of a place bcoz of that alumni. Making all school equally good will do NOTHING to ease that competition for places.

Unless you are suggesting that those public display of affection for alma maters by alumni is nothing but a hypocritical act or an \"excuse\"? It is purely desire for a \"better school\" and not \"deep seated affection for the alma mater\" in reality?

Base on my speculation, only 2 group of pple will believe that making \"all school equally good\" will \"make most pple happy\".

Group A - Those that calls for and fully supports distance priority. They believe that if all school are equally good, the alumni will not travel excessive distance to go to their alma mater. Hence the demand for their \"school next door\" will drop, and they can gain entry much more easily.

Group B - Alumni who, upon realizing that \"all school are equally good\", suddenly abandon their previously deep unmovable “富贵不能淫,贫贱不能移,威武不能屈\" affection for the alma mater, decide to opt for convenience instead and settle with the \"equally good\" school next door. Since they give up desire for that alma mater on the other side of the island, of coz they will believe making all school equally good will please everyone and they need not travel high and far to get to a \"better school\" now.

Which group do you belong to?

The hard code alma mater lover type of alumni will not believe that making \"all school equally good\" will please everyone bcoz they will still brave the journey to the other side of the island, and in the process still make the local school next door residents unhappy.

😆 funny but true, well said.

This world is getting more cynical with people cannot believe that there are altruistic others around who believe in working for common good.

Dont know why, the below just floated up my mind when I am reading this thread on 3boys. 大丈夫s are getting rare nowadays...

Thank you for the implied compliment. I do not consider myself altruistic.

But when one approaches an issue, it must be with objectivity. It must be about how the policy works out overall, not about how the policy impacts me/myself/my family most. The starting position cannot be; \"This policy change is going to hurt me, I will defend to the hilt, and justify it by any means necessary, regardless of how much impact it has on others, my fellow Singaporeans.\"

That approach is a recipe for disaster for the nation.

Not sure why it's so hard for people to fathom that I stand to gain nothing from this, and disadvantage my kids a little even. So they go and dig around for some ulterior motive.

      Really tiresome.

Thanks for the advise, MMM, will call the card company before we leave.

So over there, perhaps it’s better to prepare enough cash than to withdraw cash there.
